About
Opened in 1930, as one, small shop, Vidler's has grown to become the largest 5 & 10 store in the world! Today the third generation of the Vidler family runs the store which has become a local landmark and destination point for shoppers near and far. A great place for the entire family and out-of-town guests, we are an old fashioned five and dime store, and so much more! With 2 levels occupying 4 connected, 19th century buildings, our many counters overflow with a wide variety of merchandise. From nostalgic candy and toys, kitchen gadgets and crafts to the newest items for the recreational shopper, our distinctive shops feature gifts, home decor, jewelry, candles and seasonal decor. A one-of-a-kind shopping experience awaits you at Vidler's, located on East Aurora's historic, red-brick Main Street.

Started in 1930, Vidler's has been around 90+ years and has expanded in a huge store that is a lot of fun to walk around. My favorite part is the room which has the toys, candy and drinks. Turkish Taffy...check! Candy Cigarettes...check! Mallo Cups, wax bottles, a variety of odd and specialized candy and sodas....check!
They have a ton of puzzles, yo-yo's, slide whistles, kazoos, coloring books, board games, dolls, retro items ranging from Wizard of Oz to Gumby, I Love Lucy to Star Wars.
The upstairs also carries a lot of school supplies, gardening supplies, candles, cards, clothes, jewelry and a ton of odds and ends.
Downstairs contains house and kitchenware items, gift foods, fabric/yarn, Christmas and various craft items.
It is easy to spend an hour just wondering around looking at everything and it is hard to walk out without buying something.
One of my favorite places to shop in upstate NY.

Definitely worth a stop if you are near the Buffalo region!! Anything & everything you can imagine for sale, in addition to a friendly helpful staff! I bought a couple of tea towels 100% cotton, one for myself & one as a gift. When my mother saw them she said, "Oh, they are lovely"!! Since I was no longer in the area, I called Vidler's & spoke to Don Vidler who texted me pictures of the entire tea towel inventory that I was interested in. He then took my order of 9 more & charged me only the USPS cost for the mailing. No extra S&H costs! I received them in a timely manner. I am pleased that the additional order was possible & that it went so smoothly. I appreciated that the staff was willing to go above & beyond to accommodate my request! Now I'm all set, to not only share one w/my mother, but have others for gifts as well!

Vidler's was recommended to us while we were visiting East Aurora as selling "everything." It turns out that the description was not far off.
Vidler's is in the center of pleasant E. Aurora, amid other shops and restaurants. Part of it sits on the site of where former president Millard Fillmore practiced law before moving to Buffalo. His house (which has been moved) is within walking distance.
Vidler's bills itself as a five and dime, and it has the feel of an old Woolworth's store. The store occupies several storefronts on two levels divided into various sections ranging from toys, to old candies, to garden decorations, to craft materials, to office supplies, to kitchenware. Many of the goods are serious and practical, but a lot is whimsical or even kitschy. It's fun poking around to see something vintage or interesting.
This is certainly worth a visit if you are in the area.

This place is amazing!! You will be sure to find something for everyone! Even those hard to shop for people. We spent a solid 2 hours walking around looking at all the things fir sale. Definitely check this place out if you are in the area!
The village is very walkable too with lots of shops and places to eat.
Parking was free and directly behind the building.
There are quite a few stairs but I did see signs for handicap accessible ways to get to the upper level.

I don't like to travel much now a days because of the COVID. However, my wife and I have been stuck at home doing close to nothing and just short of boredom for months. We live in Buffalo and wanted something different to do and we saw the Vidler's commercial with the morning news....I said to my wife, "Let's get out there today because i've never been there but you have." It was well worth the 20min. drive down the 400! We arrived to a very very busy main st. which cause a bit of parking confusion. We turned around and parked across the street. After the traffic challenge walk, my wife and I were greeted by a wonderful staff of what appeared to be a dedicated hard working group of people! They had so much inventory of odds and end, I know I did not see it all in this one Visit and spent about $100 and it was well worth every dollar!

If you are looking for hard to find things, you must shop at Vidlers I took my grand-daughter shopping with me, and she was so excited to find so many things she wanted. It made it easier for me to know that she was getting all the goodies she wanted so that I didn't have to return things she did NOT want. I found many treasures for myself as well, many unique things i could not find elseware. Great shopping adventure

I use Vidlers as a perfect example of how local stores can compete with Walmart and Amazon. It’s a delightful place where you can spend hours. The staff is nice and they are happy! I make sure to go every time I’m in the area.

Wow! I walked in the front door and immediately found a great gift for an author friend. But wait...there was more and more and more. Endless. If I hadn't been flying back to Denver, I could have bought a whole lot of great STUFF:)

For those of us old enough to remember 5 and 10s, the ubiquitous creaking wooden floors were an essential element. This, alone, is worth a stop at Vidler's. We spent more than 2 hours here, and I'm sure many spend far more time. Overall, the dept. with the most variety/harkening back to the old days was that of toys. There is also a well stalked kitchen dept. I was somewhat disappointed, because I was looking for some old fashioned slippers and aprons, but couldn't find any. These were common years ago in 5 and 10s. My friend bought a belt for $6; however it's already wearing after just a few uses. Unfortunately some--if not many--of their items are made in China; guess it's impossible to find the American made goods we so used to take for granted when shopping in days past. One of the biggest assets of this place is the plentiful free parking nearby--and this is huge. The only criticism I have is the one stall--for the whole store!--ladies room. This makes no sense, especially with all the people who come to this store. This needs to be addressed!

I found Vidler's 5 & 10 one of the most interesting stores that I have seen. The merchandise that I saw looked just like I remember in the 60's when I would make my trip to our local 5 & 10 store. We bought some of those toys and other items to share with our grandchildren. The Main Street in East Aurora is a gem too. Awesome store and thank you for renewing old memories.

do you sell gift cards for your store? I saw a different site selling them, so is that the only way to buy them? Thank youi

Becky: Yes, we sell gift-certificates in any amount. Not plastic cards, but hand-written paper certificates. Just call the store at 716-652-0481. Not sure where you would have seen on another site, 'cause we don't distribute through anybody else.

What time can people visit the observation deck on Saturday?
Vid510
East Aurora, NY18 contributions
This is Don Vidler responding, and no, there is no observation deck that I'm aware of! Perhaps you're thinking of the roof shot from our "Turn Down for What" video -- but that is not for public access. Only used when I have to decorate the Vidler on the Roof or when we make our Youtube videos!
