BOUGH BEECH CENTRE OPEN FOR EVENTS
May 2019 • Couples
Although the centre is closed it is still open for Events throughout the year.
I attended the Tudor Day recently which I can recommend, lots to enjoy and to try for yourself including making rope from straw, crafts, mixing your own herbs and a good band was present to provide period music.Refreshments were provided like tea, coffee, crisps biscuits etc.Nice for the barn to be open.
There will be further events this year.

Bough Beech Visitor Centre - Open for events
May 2019 • Family
Contrary to popular belief events are still being held at the visitor centre. We attended Tudor Day there on 24th May 2019. There were lots of wonderful games, crafts and activities for families including spinning yarn from wool, candle making, falconry, portable beehive and a plant stall plus live music in a beautiful setting.

Wonderful Place Worth a Visit
Sep 2018
Visited September 2018 and it was truly lovely. Just off the busy main road you would not expect to find this little piece of tranquillity. Just a cup of tea and a sandwich outside but it was delicious and the service could not have been more pleasant. An ideal place to spend an afternoon.

Bough beech
Jan 2018
Visited Bough Beech on a Monday afternoon in January with my Dad and brother.
Before our visit of course I TripAdvisored it for an idea of what to expect. I read that the visitor centre has been closed.

We parked up along the road where there were a couple of people set up with binoculars looking over one side of the reserve. An information board, where you can update the birds that have been spotted there
We saw 2 herons flying over.
The visitor centre was indeed closed, open to group bookings/ tours later on in the year.
For someone interested in nature this is a great find. Even for an afternoon out like us 3 it was a nice place to visit

Closure of the visitor centre
Dec 2017 • Couples
What a shame this lovely hidden gem is closing. My wife and I have been regular visitors, virtually every week, since retiring just over two years ago. It had awakened our interest in bird spotting and generally all the flora and fauna to be found in this unspoiled spot. We cannot praise the volunteer staff highly enough for their depth of knowledge of the local nature and how so helpful they have all been, will miss them all. Very sad time.

Looking for an excuse
Nov 2017 • Solo
Kent Wildlife Trust have been looking for an excuse to close this excellent nature-inspiring centre ever since they started to employ highly overpaid business executives who have no knowledge of the natural world to run their charitable “trust”. It’s been in existence long before they ever got their hands on it.
I trust everyone who has visited this centre over many years will not renew their membership.
If you’ve never been there, then I can highly recommend you visit while you can. Yes it’s basic, but so is nature.

CLOSING DOWN DUE TO MISMANAGEMENT BY KENT WILDLIFE TRUST
Nov 2017 • Family
Have found out that KWT have decided to close Bough Beech Visitor Centre as it is damp and expensive to run- yes this is a genuine comment from their CEO,it is surrounded by a reservoir which attracts numerous wildlife-and it is an older building-cannot say it is damp though,I think he needs a better excuse than that.SES who own the building pays for numerous things such as the septic tank emptying, hedge cutting, peppercorn rent of about £10 a year only is charged, the electricity for the special pumps, etc etc-and they cannot make it pay-wish most small Businesses and Charities had so little to pay for.
SO WHY CAN YOU NOT MAKE IT PAY-Is it because you are charging out a proportion of the headquarters management to the centres for your wages etc that means this visitor centre cannot make a Profit.
Also let us not forget the many many wonderful hard working volunteers who GIVE THEIR TIME for nothing.
You have had nothing but financial support from many quarters, and you are still not making this pay-so nothing but POOR management decisions to blame- your charity is too top heavy with people earning thousands, and you have a stagnant membership.
This move will again not improve your reputation and after the Michael Bax fiasco you are driving members away.

Super visitor centre on its way out.

Sadly Kent Wildlife Trust have decided to close this gem to the general public. For years it has provided a welcome and refreshment to those who want to experience a haven for wildlife in the Kent countryside.

Haven of peace and quiet and interesting wildlife
Oct 2016 • Couples
Bough Beech is a small, but very interesting local nature reserve, with several different habitats to explore. There is a walk (about 3km long) that explores most of these, but does involve walking along a quiet road. The staff were friendly and helpful and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. There were not many birds (or other animals) showing, but the beauty of the area and the displays upstairs menat we still felt we had a full visit. A lovely tea was served outside on the benches.
