We visited the stadium last year on our visit to the Hall Of Fame. We walked in and back in time. This year we visited and were lucky to watch an adult pick up game going on. We sat in the shade in the old time seats and recharged as we enjoyed the game. My son loved it so much as we were leaving there was an exhibition game of 12 year old teams getting ready to play. We grabbed some lunch and came back to catch some of that game as well. Whether there is a game going on or not, great place to visit!

Doubleday Field not to be missed especially when Legends of Baseball are playing!

If you are visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame you should also plan a visit to Doubleday Field.
My tip is plan your trip to Cooperstown around a time when there will be games being played by the Legends of Baseball league, a thirty and over mixed league of amateur players who play the game with heart while dressed in uniforms of major league teams!
To visit Doubleday field when there is no activity would be nothing special in my opinion. Watching a game from the wooden seats of Doubleday stadium, and hearing the crack of the wooden bat along with the cheers of team fans makes it come alive. It’s like a sandlot field with red, white & blue banners hanging from the grandstand wall and seeing the neighborhood home rooftops beyond the home-run fence. The Legends of Baseball team members play hard and play to win as evidence by the bags of ice and plastic wrap used to comfort players after a tough fought game. So do yourself a favor and plan your visit during a game. PS: grab a box of pop corn and a drink from a near by souvenir store to make the game even better! Admission to Doubleday field is free and there is some handicap ramps to the grandstand. Cheers to you! D & V of Wooster, Ohio

Step into the past when you visit the Abner Doubleday Field. It is a free step inside, to see the old stadium seating and field. I immediately recognized the field, dugout, and stands from the film "A League of Their Own." The weekend we visited had a little league tournament, so the stadium is still being used.

It's okay. It's an old little stadium in a residential neighborhood.

Travel teams were playing there.

MLB used to play an annual exhibition game there, but haven't done so for over 10 years...and that's a shame.

Quick visit is okay.

Great spot for baseball fans to catch a game in a historic space. Plenty of seating to stretch out or let your little ones roam. Surprisingly hidden- if my husband wasn’t looking for it, I would have never known it was there. Definitely a nice place to stop and catch an inning or too.

When you walk through the gates of Abner Doubleday Field, it's like walking into the past. The field is open to the public for free, and there are an occasional game here. A little league tournament was playing here. When I saw the field, dugout, and stands, I immediately recognized it from "A League of Their Own."

Nice trip to the past. I was here 10 years ago and you could walk on the field unfortunately that is not the case now. However you can go into the grandstand and walk around the bleachers. It is a cool place to go back in time

This is a cool ballpark and worth a look when your in town, esp. for baseball fans. Its just down the block from the Hall of Fame. In the summer many games are played here so if you stop by you probably will see the field in use. The Majors play one game here every year as well. The old grandstand is cool looking - like from a different era and then there is much bleacher seating down both lines and in the outfield (to accomodate the MLB Hall of Fame Game). Awesome place!

What a cool field! It has a touch of Fenway, Wrigley, and you can almost see what ball parks used to be at Doubleday Field. I didn't know that they used to play all-star games here. How cool would have it been to go see Mickey Mantle step to the plate. All I have to say is thank you for have this place open to the public to take in history! Bring a camera and let history begin!

On our first visit to Cooperstown in a long while, we found Abner Doubleday Field still beautiful and in great condition. There was a minor league intrasquad game going on, which we caught part of. It reminded me of great previous visits, including one long ago, back when they played the inter-league Hall of Fame Game during Induction Weekend. A must see when visiting the nearby Hall of Fame!
