Rented a pontoon boat to go out on the water. The first thing that you are bombarded with are the forms that tell you that you will be responsible for ANY and ALL damages and you have to initial that statement 5 or 6 times in different word phrasings. Then there is another rental agreement that lists how much it costs to repair the most common items: $500 for propeller, $1000 for pontoon, etc. Pretty inflated prices in my opinion. All those forms raise your anxiety level because you start thinking that this could be one expensive trip if you accidentally touch something with the boat. Also, you are reminded constantly that there are schoals (i.e. rock formations on the bottom) that could scratch the boat or break the propeller and you would be responsible for that.

The prices were very reasonable for the rental but the condition of the pontoon boat we rented was ROUGH. A front panel was broken on ours (I guess the previous reviewer broke it and it still wasn't fixed). The steering wheels was not centered. The propeller had a lot of scratches on it so we took pictures before we boarded just in case. The seats were all taped with duct tape instead of being fixed. There was no radio both communications and music-playing on board. There was no GPS. Most of these were cosmetic so that didn't bother us much. (The communications equipment and GPS would have been great to have)

When we went on the water there weren't many waves but the pontoon boat was rocking a lot. I downloaded a marine navigation app on my phone since these boats don't come with GPS and kept the app on the entire time we were in the water so I stay in deep water and avoid any shallows but as long as you keep between the green and red buoys you will be fine - it's just getting to be between the two buoys from shore is where you need to be careful. The boat did stall out once while we were out on the river and the motor didn't want to turn back over for a few minutes but then it started right back up. This made us a little anxious so we turned around and went back.

Some tips:
(1) see if you can get boat insurance somewhere for the rental or I hope Seaway Slips someday provides insurance on their rental boats as I would have gladly paid for that as the anxiety of damaging the boat and paying for that ruins any fun you may have boating
(2) Seaway Slips should provide a GPS or give you an ability to rent one but you can always download an app for that for your android or Apple phone beforehand and download maps of the river beforehand if you don't want to use a data plan or you can use the app with your data plan
(3) Take pictures of the boat before you board and I mean pictures of everything since the boat is so beat up you don't want to be responsible for any of the previous damage
(4) Make sure you have cell phone reception just in case (make sure your phone can connect to Rogers network in Canada) because Seaway Slips rental boats don't have any communication equipment on board the rental boat. I hope Seaway slips provides some sort of radio or walkie talkie on their boats - can't be that expensive to have that on board and would definitely lower the anxiety level.

Thank you for your review. We understand the anxiety level. When we started renting boats our contract was quite simple, one small paragraph, 20 years of renting boats has changed the contract. The rental agreement that lists the costs of repairs, is another form that allows you not to rent the boat if you do not feel comfortable in doing so. The prop is 200.00, it is the skag that costs 500.00 that part has to be taken to a machine shop and welded. Most marinas charge 65.00 plus per hour, so the costs also include labor. The boat you rented is quite a ugly boat, we agree, but the price also reflects that, we do have nicer boats with all new seating. The fisherman like the ugly boat, with the taped seats as they do not have to worry about fish guts, and getting a hook stuck in a new seat cushion. Some people like it because it is an affordable option for getting out on the river for the day. We don't have a problem with you taking as many pictures as you like, we also take a picture of the prop and lower unit before the boat goes out. We have boats with GPS, but we still have had people tell us that they didn't know that there are rocks in the water, or that the GPS said it was great, lots of water depth, don't know how they hit the prop. Or they don't know how to read a GPS. The prop sitting on our desk that is demolished, is from a boat that had GPS. We do provide navigational charts free of charge, and we go over them with you, to make sure you understand water depth and where the best boating is. As far as having renters insurance we found it encouraged additional damage, and renters need for speed. Also we are trying to make sure that the renter understands everything, boaters from Florida are use to sand bars not rocks. Some people have just rented boats on lakes. etc. We are concerned about your safety, maybe that comes across that we are worried about the boat, we are more worried about the renter getting into trouble. So yes a lot of times we go over board, but it is to give you every chance not to rent the boat if you do not feel comfortable with the contract, price list, condition of the boat, or anything else, we would prefer that the renter does not rent. Sorry it was your most anxiety filled boat ride.

Reserved boat rental on a Saturday in person for Sunday rental. Verbal reservation. Showed up Sunday to go out. Seen them at their residence. Never came down to us. Walked up to them. They pulled all their curtains and shades and would not answer door or phone calls. FINALLY I said in a message, I seen you at your kitchen table. They finally answered and said they had nothing available for us. BULLs***. Horrible people to do business with. Went across street to Bayside boat rental and Ryan was super nice and we were able to go out that day finally.

Don't be fooled by a lower "rate," you will pay more in the end. My father in law, who has been boating for years in the area, rented a worn down pontoon boat for our family. Twenty minutes into the trip some chopping on the river popped out the flimsy tin front panel. Obviously, we were willing to help fix the run-down boat since the damage happened during our visit. The very rude worker Bob charged us $400 for the quick fix. We spoke with Donny, the local mechanic used for the repair, to find out it was a $150 fix. I guess they'll make money anyway they can find it, but it won't be in repeat business.

We rented a 22 foot pontoon boat for July 4th, 2013.

I couldn't get the boat started once I return to our dock. (I lifted to motor out of the water, as it was explained that the propeller on a recently rented boat struck ground.)

I was insulted by the owner in front of my wife and kids. Reference was made to my lack of "common sense." I was not called an "idiot" as the last poster reported, but the owner meant it. "How do you think the motor is supposed to cool?" When the owner was able to get the motor started, and said "so what's the problem?" with sarcasm.

The condescending tone and attitude was disturbing to say the least. My wife cried upon returning the boat because of the stress and the disrespectful treatment.

My money was returned in full by the owner's wife, who was professional and respectful.

We rented a 20 foot pontoon for the day and had a great time.

The boat was a long way from new, but was fully equipped and worked great. It was a very warm day so the cover was appreciated as was the swim ladder.

There are many much prettier newer boats available, but for 3 times the cost as Seaway. Since most people who rent here are price conscious it surprises me to see the negative views. The owners seemed nice people to me, they made several helpful suggestions we followed and that was that.

When we got back we were charged exactly what we had agreed if the boat was undamaged, and although I had broken the boathook they laughed it off and didn't charge me for it.

We would certainly use them again and have no hesitation in recommending Seaway Slips to the price aware visitor!

My husband, 10 year old daughter and I have been renting a pontoon boat from Seaway Slips for about 7 summers. The boats are mechanically sound and allow you to explore without any worries of mechanical problems. They may not be the most aesthetically pleasing or newest boats. But to us, Seaway Slips allows us an affordable way to get out on the beautiful river and enjoy time together as a family. The owner Bob has given us advice on great coves and islands to visit and one area has become a family favorite. Anchoring and then jumping and floating together....priceless! And we watched the eclipse 2017 from the water, priceless memories!

We met all 3 owners (Bob, his wife and his daughter) at the time of our rental and they were all great. I wouldn't call them overly sweet but who cares, they were respectful, helpful and polite and that's all that matters to me, I don't need schmoozing.

The boats are a bit older and simplistic, but if I wanted a gleaming yacht I would have gone elsewhere and paid a boatload more for the same experience. If your goal is to enjoy seeing the 1000 Islands at your own pace at a very reasonable rate, then this is the place for you. If you want glitz and glamour then go elsewhere. The rates are less than half of what I was quoted by any other marina in a 20 mile radius, so we were able to enjoy the boat for a full 9 hours for a very reasonable fee.

We rented a 22 foot pontoon boat for 4 adults and 3 large breed dogs, and that was plenty of room. The boat was clean, it drove fine, and it had all the necessities to enjoy a nice day on the water. With the dogs, I was rather happy that the boat had a rubber floor, as it provided traction and was easy to clean up after they shed all over it.

I would absolutely rent a boat from this Marina again, they are affordable, kind, and we had the best day out on the water!

My husband and I took our 3 young kids kayaking along the St. Lawrence River from Seaway Slips. Judy and her daughter were extremely accommodating - we found the right set of kayaks to use for our family - and they gave us an extra floatation device since we were a little nervous about one of our kids tipping a boat since they are so new to being on the water. Our oldest was paddling for the first time by herself, so that gave us extra peace of mind. Judy's suggestion to paddle down to the marina was the perfect trip length for our family - and the kids really enjoyed all of the waterfront houses, boats, and the buoy at the end of the route - no one could be bored with all the interesting things to see! It was really easy and a great experience!
