Showed up on a Wednesday afternoon to find the place locked up tighter than a drum. The sign on the door listing their hours showed that they should have been open; as well as the hours listed on the website. We called from the parking lot to see when they would open and got a recording, left our information and didn't receive a call back. Change your sign and website please.

With thousands of canal boats which wore out in about 12 years the Erie Canal needed significant boat repair and construction infrastructure. Chittenango Landing has 3 drydocks and a boat building shop reconstructed from accurate archeology. A photo from the 1800s shows the landing very much as it is today. A canal boat reconstructed in sections shows construction details. The long tow path invites walking or bicycling and there is enough water in the old canal for kayaking. Rental kayaks and bicycles are available at the Landing. Knowledgeable helpful staff will answer questions.
