Wine tasting

Stopped in with the family and the owner was beyond rude and discourteous. Complained she was up since 4am and was tired....okay, but we are paying for the tasting. Totally ignored my questions and comments. Will never go back....worst tasting I have ever been to.

New tasting room. Grape wines and fruit wines. Knowledgeable tasting room staff. Highlights were, Oh What a Pear, Merlot, and Conductor's Cassis. The Merlot juice is sourced elsewhere. We didn't like the Moonlight Marquette, Pomona, All Aboard, or the the Porter's Port. The Port looked and tasted like a tawny sherry that needed more ageing. The All Aboard is a kitchen sink blend of Frontenac, Marquette, Baco and Merlot. They didn't play well together. They need to plant another cold weather red, such as St Croix. They didn't have any baked goods for sale the day we visited, which was too bad.

On a recent trip to the Capital Region for a weekend visit with our daughter and her boyfriend, we stopped at Brookview Station on our road trip to Albany. The place reminds you of a country store with all the items for sale that people from the city 'must have ' from a country store. That statement is not meant to demean the establishment, but we don't need to go to a winery to buy our Maple Syrup. We found Brookview through Groupon and the deal they offer is very good; 6 tastings each, a cheese platter and a souvenir glass each. The wines are actually pretty good (some of which won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in Hudson Valley wine competitions) and the service (I'm sorry, but I cannot recall his name) was very friendly and entertaining. Additionally they also have many additional Hard Ciders under the name of "Joe Daddy's", which although I only tasted one ..if they all are compatible in taste, then they ALL are also Very Good.

Warm and Welcoming

This farm and winery is close to Albany and has much to offer. In season there are pick your own offerings: pumpkins, apples. The store has knick-knacks and food. The cider donuts are great and in high demand. The cider is tasty and popular.

The centerpiece is the winery. A large and diverse selection of fruit and grape wines: whites, rose and full bodied reds/ports. The Pomona was semi-sweet and smooth.

New additions are several kinds of hard cider. A bargain with the refillable growlers.

Our server was friendly and informative on a June weekday.

Crowded on Fall weekends.

We were a group of four couples doing parts of the Hudson-Berkshire Beverage Tour wristband weekend. Nice rustic winery, farm store with wood stove warmth and good variety of wines. Very friendly owners and knowledgeable staff. Interesting stories about their forefathers and the relationship to railroading in the Hudson Valley. Taste being subjective, everyone found a number of wines that they liked (and purchased) There is something for everyone. There are tables beside the wood stove to enjoy a glass. My favorite, Pomona (semi-sweet Apple/Pear Wine). Don't forget the Cider Donuts. I imagine it is beautiful when the orchards bloom.

Fun tasting, can do the passport to try all the wineries on the hudson Bershire trail. There are about 3 wineries and 2 distilleries included, all offering a nice selection.

Tasty wine, gorgeous views
I stopped here while taking a drive with my dog in tow. Being a wine fan, I was intriqued and stopped - glad I did - friendly, knowledgeable staff, tasty wine, and a great farm store, too. They had both apple/pear wines and grape varietals as well. They also had a few varities of hard cider to try. The woman conducting the tasting suggested I take my dog for a walk through the orchards afterwards - a great idea, as it was a gorgeous view at the top of one hill and we enjoyed the walk!

Suggestions

I have been to a lot of wineries and vineyards. I know this is primarily and orchard and in the early stages of being a winery which is great. A few things I noticed that may help Brookview Station take it to the next level. Most of the Wineries and Vineyards have set aside a place to sit down outside and enjoy their wine while taking in the fresh air and views of the farm land. This encourages people to come back again and not just to do a tasting one time and never return but to get out of the everyday element and relax. When my Fiancee and I consider going back to places to enjoy wine its often about the atmosphere that comes along with it. Another observation we have noticed in visiting a few times are the hosts pouring. Not that they are bad but sometimes awkward and maybe a little more training would help them feel comfortable in presenting the wines to the tasters. Overall I think its great to have local orchards and wineries and the wine is good. There is definitely potential to do well.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestions. I do appreciate them. During the winter months we offer seating in the tasting room around the wood stove. Typically mid May through mid November is when we put the tables back outside around the big red maple on the front side of the building. I hope you'll stop by during warmer months when we have outdoor seating. The farm and vineyards are so beautiful and well worth taking a stroll. Kindest Regards, Karen

We live nearby and are so fortunate to have an establishment of this caliber in our area. We've long patronized the orchard part of their business (their fruits of the forest pies and apple cider donuts are divine) and are only too delighted to sample and buy their wine, too! My husband loves their hard cider while I prefer their Conductor's Black Currant Cassis. Their wine tasting area is right in their rustically appointed retail shop but don't let that dissuade you. Brookview Station has won its share of medals and competitions and it's easy to taste why! All aboard!

My boyfriend and I visited on president's day... This was one of the few vineyards open on a weekday and during the winter. For only $6 you get to taste 6 of their wines, but as a holiday bonus, they offered us 3 additional wines for free! James was interesting, told funny stories, and knows quite a bit about the wines and the history of the farm. Very cozy, at home, feeling. Sweet and fruity wines. Would definitely return!
