About
Atwater Estate Vineyards is a family-owned winery located on eighty scenic acres on the eastern side of Seneca Lake. Our unique site boasts a microclimate ideal for grape production, and we are intimately connected to every vine we grow. This hands-on knowledge allows us to lovingly cultivate the grapes in our vineyards with precision, balance, and high quality control. We are open for wine tasting by reservation only from 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. daily. A limited number of seats may be available for wine by the glass on a first-come, first-served basis.

Great views of the vineyard and the lake. Our host Bobby was extremely knowledgeable and the wines were very noticeably better than an earlier stop.
The Gewurtziminer (sp?) was quite interesting and nice with a slightly orangish coloring.

My daughter and I ended our Seneca lake winery visit here. Most wineries close at 5, but Atwater has "after hours". You can't do tastings, but you can get a glass of wine and cheese, meats and snacks, and sit on deck and watch the sunset. Unfortunately the day we came it rained. The bartenders were so fun and interesting to talk to. Hope to be back on a sunny day next time we visit the fingerlakes.

Sometimes rainy days are the best days. Our site and view are a great place to enjoy mother nature at her finest. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. We hope to see you back soon.

Came to Seneca on a girls long weekend trip to getaway from the hustle and bustle. We had made a reservation and were a few minutes late but they were happy to seat us and even allowed us to bring in our food since we were running late. The views of the sunset are absolutely amazing and our tasting guide (Jim? I believe) was super sweet. We had such a great time chatting with him. He was knowledgeable and enjoyed exchanging stories, which we absolutely love. The wines are great and the entire experience was very enjoyable. If you enjoy bubbles, my favorite hands down was the Pinot Noir Rosé. Sooo good!! I will definitely be returning to this winery!!

Unfortunately we chose to end our 3 day NY wine experience with this winery. This was the only winery that did not allow our 2 month old grandson into the tasting room and all of us agreed we would never return to Atwater.
We have been enjoying Seneca Lake wineries for over 30 years and have always made wonderful memories. We will definitely be back to Seneca just not to Atwater.

We strive to provide each party excellent customer satisfaction and regret that you had a negative experience during your recent visit. Our maximum occupancy is determined by social distancing regulations enumerated in state guidelines, and unfortunately we can’t allow children or people under 21 in the tasting room. While we hope conditions relax soon, for now, the safety of guests and staff must be our priority.

The service was poor. The view was pretty and wine was reasonable. We made a reservation for 4 people because 2 people in our party are the designated drivers. The winery would not allow our 2 designated drivers into the tasting area because we did not add them to the reservation and there "was not space". There was plently of room in the tasting area and they should not have had to stay outside in the cold. I do not understand why they needed to wait outside. Also the workers seemed to be uptight during the entire experience.

We endeavor to provide complete customer satisfaction and regret that you had a negative experience during your recent tasting. Our maximum occupancy is determined by social distancing regulations enumerated in state guidelines. Because of our small tasting room and full reservation schedule, we can only meet these guidelines by allowing guests listed on reservations inside for seated tastings. We certainly hope conditions relax soon, but for now, the safety of guests and staff must be our priority.

Adorable vineyard, amazing view, and a delightful staff for the tasting. Atwater has some really lovely dry wines and is not a “wine slushy” churn. The tasting room is not large, so do get a reservation in season. You will not run into bus loads of kids here.

While the view is fantastic, the service at the lower counter was extremely disappointing. They were out of their signature Riesling… no big deal. But the gentleman working the counter was abrupt to the point of being rude. We won’t likely return. Too many wineries in the area to settle for subpar service.

Pretentious and dangerous. Not following COVID rules properly. Can’t comment on the wines or the tasting because we felt so unsafe we left before it started!

We were two people, when we came they told us we had to have a reservation and come back in half in hour. They took our credit card and charged us just to hold our reservation (the other tasting rooms told us this was highly unusual for two people coming to a tasting room on a Monday afternoon. Makes sense maybe at a 12 seat restaurant or something.

When we returned at our reservation time they refused to seat us for our tasting until 6 other people who had reservations at the same time arrived. I asked if all 8 people would be seated at the same table even during COVID and the guy looked at us like we were crazy and assured us we’d be safe. Then, while he was waiting for the other people to arrive he had everyone crowded in a corner not socially distant at all. That’s when we knew it was time to run!

I’ve been a huge supporter of places like restaurants and tasting rooms during COVID. I know these are very though times, but you have to follow the rules

Response from the owner We apologize for any miscommunication on our part during your visit. The safety of our guests and staff is paramount to us. Because of this, we have several layers of safety protocols prior to entering our tasting room. We require all groups (maximum party of four) to have reservations so we can maintain social distancing. Each group is required to wait outside until we can administer a COVID-19 questionnaire and give an overview of our COVID-19 procedures which include wearing a mask at all times except when seated, sanitizing hands upon entering and leaving the tasting room, and maintaining six feet between individuals and groups. Our current maximum occupancy is 16 people with tables separated by 6 feet or more. Upon entering each separate group (maximum of 4 per group) is seated at separate tables. Anyone leaving their table for any reason must wear their mask until they are re-seated. Checkout is completed at the table, and our staff packs all wine purchases and has them ready at the front door to eliminate lines. We also clean and sanitize each table, wine station, computer screens, and door handles after each group leaves the building. All glassware is cleaned using a high-temp sanitizing dishwasher. At your reservation time, we had three parties, two parties of two and one party of four. When you arrived, the other parties were sitting on benches six feet apart under a tent outside our tasting room. We are sorry there was a misunderstanding and you thought you had to wait under the tent or that you would be seated with the other guests. We absolutely take COVID-19 regulations seriously and will remind our hosts to better communicate these procedures.

Had a little extra time and thought we would stop here. Tasting experience was poor. Of the 13 wineries we visited this was the worst. Wines were all disappointing. Unfortunately, in addition, they would not allow us to sit outside even though there was no one else sitting out there. Definitely won't return on our next trip to the Finger Lakes.

Terrible service, great view and somewhat okay wine. We waited over 15 mins at the empty winery to get served. Their excuse: “there is so much going on we are sorry”. Only 2 tables were full at the time we were there. I felt bad and order a glass of wine, I got charged for a bottle! So incompetent. I would never come back to this winery thanks to their incompetent staff. I had a glass of dry Riesling which was okay but nothing to write home about.

I'm sorry for your experience. We had a whole new set of executive orders given to us that we had to comply with overnight. If we do not comply with these orders we can be fined and lose our liquor license. With no lead time to hire or adequately train staff, we are doing our best. Honestly, I am proud of how the staff has stepped up with all of these new changes on a weekly and sometimes daily basis. One of these changes basically turned our simple counter-service for wine by the glass into a sit-down table service atmosphere in under a day. The woman you speak about has never waited a table in life and was not only trying to catch her breath and change her train of thought for this service but also train another staff member at the same time. Trust me she felt so bad about missing you. She mentioned it to me at least three times today. As for being incompetent and ringing out the wrong purchase that was me. I came down to help out, jumped in to close your tab for you, and I read your order back to you and you didn't respond. My co-worker then caught the mistake and we corrected it before finishing the transaction. Again, I apologize for your experience but ask of you to have a little compassion, patience, and understanding as all the small businesses that are the fabric of the Finger Lakes do everything they can to comply while keeping customers and staff safe. I truly hope you enjoyed your visit to our area.
