Great Cultural Tour of the Bronx

My father and I very much enjoyed our walking tour of the South Bronx with Alexandra. Since we were staying in Manhattan, she went to the trouble to meet us in Harlem to start the tour. Alexandra has an extensive knowledge about the art and history of the Bronx, having grown up around the places she took us too. All of the art pieces she took us to were awesome. One of the best moments on the tour was when she took us into Giant Tattoos where we met some of the locals who showed us the some of the handmade bicycle sculptures in their shop. Alexandra was eager to show us as many spots as possible, and introduce us to her friends and acquaintances that we passed on the street. I have sometimes found that walking tours can be a bit of an awkward experience, especially if you are standing still for long periods of time or if the tour guide has no context around day to day life of the people and the community. This was not the case with Alexandra, as the tour was very well paced and helped us to understand many of the present social issues. Overall, this was a great experience and opportunity to learn more about New York.

Wonderful tour

Our Bronx tour with Alexandra was both fascinating and informative.Her passion for the place of her upbringing was evident in her tour. It was great meeting people she knows and seeing the murals. To top off a great tour, Alexandra recommend a local Italian restaurant the fresh pasta was the best we have ever had. Would definitely recommend this tour when in New York.

Fascinating tour of the South Bronx by a true expert

Alexandra took me on a fascinating walk around the South Bronx, telling its stories and memories, showing this vital part of New York. I was warmly welcomed by Alexandra and I was inspired by her knowledge and passion. I thoroughly recommend this walking tour to anyone who is interested in the varied history and culture of the city.

A fantastic tour of the Bronx. A must do for any visitor to NYC!

This is my third trip to NYC and my third tour with Bronx Historical Tours.

The tours never disappoint and are a really good way to learn about the Bronx. If you want to understand the way of life in this part of New York City, this is a must do activity. Don't just spend your time at the tourist sites, let someone who lives in the Bronx share her stories with you about life in this part of NYC.

Tours are well organised, flexible and I highly recommend!

Eyeopening Experience of the South Bronx

I very much appreciated Alex providing our group with an authentic insiders look of her beloved community, the South Bronx. She offered a very compelling historical narrative that made me appreciate the rich cultures that are represented in the Bronx. Her historical analysis helped us to understand some of the social issues of he Bronx has faced historically up to the present day. Alex was extremely knowledgeable, patient, kind, and willing to answer ALL of our questions. Her passion and commitment to her community is commendable. I highly recommend her to lead your tour of the South Bronx!

Very insightful and interesting tour of the Bronx

Alexandra was a really great guide - we really enjoyed learning about the history, and her own experiences of growing up in the Bronx. It was probably the best thing we did on our visit to New York, and we left very happy to have visited and learned so much about the borough. Highly recommended.

Seeing The Bronx with a Local Friend

Alex made this tour into an experience in walking the neighborhood with a (very knowledgeable!) friend. Alex is an excellent resource and advocate for knowing The Bronx on a personal level. The only thing I’d change is the opportunity to cover more ground! Thank you, Alex; keep up the good work you are doing for The Bronx and giving it a VOICE!

A real and honest perspective

We had a great tour last week. This was exactly what we were looking for. Walking around and feeling the actual vibe of The South Bronx. We got a real and honest perspective on life here. With stories and examples from the past and present.

The other Bronx

The tour I took today was something completely different from what I had expected. Having in mind the old cliches of the Bronx I was astonished to find a lovely and peaceful yet lively and diverse neighbourhood with open and friendly people and lots of interesting places and characters. Forget about everything you heard about the Bronx and come and make your own picture. Alexandra is the most lovely and enthousiastic tour guide I've ever had and she does everything to make this a really memorable experience for your. I recommend taking the big tour, take your time, you won't be disappointed.
