We had a great time today on our Whale Watching Tour. We saw pods of Dolphin and 3 whales!! I've lived on Long Island my whole life and never knew these tours existed until a friend of mine went on one and I heard about it. I'm glad I went. We also had great weather 60*F in the day after election day. I packed two sandwiches for my husband and I. I did not use it, but they had a limited snack stand and it said "Cash Only." The boat had a little viewing port for little ones which I thought was cute. They sanitized everything. Staff was friendly and the naturalist on board was knowledgeable. I will def go again.

I wasn't expecting much, seeing as we so close to the city. But we spotted four humpback whales and dozens of dolphins. The cruise alone was worth the price. Very cool! Great for a date or for out-of-town friends and family!

I have lived in Long Island my whole life, and as a one-time marine science major who took a different career path but still loves the sea, I was ecstatic to learn that in the last few years, humpback whales have been coming to NYC and Long Island waters. I started going out on whale watches with American Princess Cruises in 2019, and have been going out with them almost weekly this summer as well. It is a truly fantastic experience to be out on the boat with the iconic NYC skyline in view, sometimes with a whale right in front of it! Some info: Gotham Whale is a research organization that partners with AP Cruises, providing a naturalist on board to educate guests about the area and the marine life. They have created a database of photos to ID the whales in the area, and have at least 2 photographers on board for all cruises. The whale watching cruises operate Wednesday through Sunday at noon during the summer season, and they will run cruises on weekends through late November. For the 2020 season they depart from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn (their regular pier is at Riis Landing). There is street parking in the area, and it's recommended you arrive early due to traffic. The cruises are generally 3.5 hours long, give or take. The captain and crew members are experts, and do their best to find the whales and dolphins that are feasting on the abundant menhaden (bunker) that are in the area. They also run sunset cruises twice a week through August, which are incredible. Additionally, given Covid, they have marked off 6-foot intervals along the rails and have blocked off every other table in the cabin. Masks are required, and the crew comes by every hour to sanitize the rails, in addition to sanitizing the boat before and after cruises. I cannot recommend American Princess enough. It is a wonderful way to get out in the fresh air and experience a little-known New York gem!

This trip is just incredible. The crew are friendly and informative and we had a great crowd of people on the trip with us. Of course you are not guaranteed to see whales and dolphins but we saw 12 whales and it was amazing. Preservation is the priority for Gotham Whale and we had the best day. Don’t hesitate if you’re thinking about this brilliant experience.

It was awesome seeing the whales, pods of dolphins and listening to the naturalist on board. Had a great time. Staff was very attentive. I went with my husband but this is great for families! snacks and hot dogs available on board but you can bring your own and buy drinks. We went on labor day. Make sure to check their website for sailings before buying tickets. Check the weather and wear appropriate clothing. I don't have enough pictures as we were amazed, and moved from one side of the boat to the other, depending on were the whales were.
