Great winery - try the chocolate wine!
Jan 2021 • Couples
A great winery where you can sit on the patio and enjoy a wonderful glass of white, red or...chocolate (?!?) wine. The river canyon is gorgeous! Drive up towards Taos and make sure you drive on the Taos scenic byway for the most eautiful views in New Mexico.
The chocolate red wine "Black Beauty" is really, really good! You're sure to admire the beautiful artwork on each bottle's label.
Enjoy!

Grape Stomping Fun!
Oct 2019
We had a fabulous time at Black Mesa Winery. We did a little wine tour in the area and this one by far was the most friendly and fun!

We discovered it on Saturday and came back on Sunday to do their Grape Stomp- we picked grapes, did a tasting, they provided lunch and music and to end the day we stomped the grapes!

It was one of the highlights of our couples trip and I highly recommend checking them out- also their Chocolate Caliente Wine and Malbec Wine is delicious!

Stop on our way to Albuquerque
Jul 2019 • Couples
We were taking the low road from Rio Grande Gorge Bridge to Albuquerque and stopped off at the Black Mesa Winery for a couple of glasses of wine. All of the wine was locally made. We walked through the vineyard and the petroglyphs area. The winery was quite busy. Staff was very friendly.
We bought a bottle of Montepulciano wine.
Recommend stopping if you have time.

Great Wine Tasting Experience
Jul 2019 • Couples
We visited Black Mesa during a tasting tour with the NM Wine Tours recently and thoroughly enjoyed our tasting. The tasting room is beautiful and has a lot of artwork and wine merchandise to browse through and purchase. There were so many wines to choose from different varieties and they were all delicious. The server, who was also the winemaker, was very entertaining and informative. It was a very enjoyable experience and we will definitely return to Black Mesa again when we are in the area. The only that would have made it more enjoyable is to have stools at the bar for us older folks to sit instead of stand.

Chocolate red wine!!!!
May 2019 • Couples
I do a lot of kayaking near this winery and almost always stop for a bottle of their red wine with strong hints of chocolate. They also have a red wine chocolate sauce that is every bit as wonderful as it is unique. Stop by for a tasting - you’ll be glad you did.

Good wine
Apr 2019 • Couples
I love the wine and the lilacs! I suggest the Velarde Chardonnay. The tastings are great, but you have to stand at their bar. No stools. That's a drawback.

Excellent Visit
Apr 2019 • Couples
My wife and I stopped here at the suggestion of a local. The location of the facility looks a little sketchy but don’t lest the looks keeping you from stopping.
We had a tasting with my wife doing sweets and me doing real wine.
The sweets for my wife were great and she got 5 bottles including their ice wine.
I purchased a reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. It was mellow as compared to a California Cabernet Sauvignon. It really had a smooth taste.
The server was also the winemaker and was very nice to give information on the area, wines and how they compare against other wines. A real outstanding experience.
We were also provided a nice container for travel.

Okay...

Right off the highway. Nice tasting room with a good feel. Small outdoor seating area. Wines were just okay, This was our least favorite of the three we visited in the area. Nothing bad but nothing special.

Expo New Mexico St. Patrick's Day coffee and chocolate fest
Mar 2019 • Friends
This was one of the most humiliating times I've had a long time. I went to the coffee and chocolate festival in Albuquerque, NM where I got in line to taste some wine. I am 30 years old and was carded at the event door and given a bracelet. I was in line at the Black Mesa Winery with my brother and aunt. The man poured my aunt and brother their samples with no hesitation. I even tasted my brother and aunt's wine. When I then asked the gentleman for my sample he was very rude and asked for my ID. My aunt explained I already had a bracelet and had been carded. He continued to explain that he had to for liability purposes. I asked why I was the only one carded? He kept repeating the same. I felt completely discriminated against. He was basing it off of my clothes and height. No one else got carded in that line. Even those who looked younger. I was completely embarrassed. And as soon as he saw my age, he was still rude. The server had glasses, gray medium length hair and a gray goatee. He was dressed in a white shirt and a black vest. Based on his attitude alone, no matter how good the wine was, I would NOT recommend this place at all.

Awesome Wines!
Mar 2019 • Couples
Long time fan of Black Mesa winery. If you want a weekend getaway thing to do I highly recommend a relaxed pace wine tasting here. Their wines are great and the servers are always very friendly. Be sure to keep an eye open for the family cat who enjoys the company.
