When you travel trough Meiringspoot Pass it feels like you are a traveller in a different time zone. The rock formations makes it a scenic drive with 25 drifts to go through, each with its own story. You can stop and have a picnic, see the waterfall or just take the beauty in. I suggest you read up on Meiringspoort Pass before you travel through.

This is a must for everyone. Here you travel from Prince Albert to Oudtshoorn along this pass that is at the bottom of this mountain pass. The massive mountain walls makes us look absolutely insignificant in comparison.
The road criss-crosses the river twenty two times and each bridge has its own name.

What an amazing place and the engineering of the road is just WOW. I saw a friends video a few months back and decided we need to do this pass as well. So we stayed in Prince Albert overnight and then headed for this magical pass. We were not disappointed for sure. The mountains tower above you and is quite mind boggling. The fact that during a flood in 1996 just about destroyed the road through the pass and had to be rebuilt, is also amazing. Well done to the roads department. This is a must do if you are in the area - I took a video of the trip but is too large to post here. There is a picnic spot stop where one can take a short walk to the waterfall - if you are elderly - take it slow especially if it is hot which it was when we were there. Highly recommended.

Unlike the usual passes which take you over the mountain, here you drive through the mountains, following the river and surrounded by towering, absolutely breathtaking rock formations.
Best of all, there are three rest stops with super clean toilets and picnic areas.
Stop at the waterfall and amble up for views and a bit of leg stretching.

The views in Meiringspoort have to be seen to be believed. The orange rock towers above you in majestic beauty. Make one trip up as the driver and then get someone else to drive on the way down so you can ogle at the view without having to concentrate on the twisty road.
Baboons are often seen on the roadside. Please DO NOT FEED the baboons. This makes them aggressive and dangerous. It is also an offence liable to a fine of R 500 or more.
Warning - please drive carefully. Pull over to admire the view, and obey the speed limits. There are often accidents in this pass as it is the main route through the mountains from the coast with lots of heavy trucks passing through. The road has many sharp bends and a slower speed than even what is posted is recommended for many of them. Drive carefully and be safe.

this is another one of the most beautiful mountain passes in south africa. the gigantic rock formations just take your breath away.

We ran from the waterfall back to de Rust. Fantastic and unusual scenery and at least downhill - just had to be careful of HGVs

WOW!!! The magnificence and majesty of the surrounding mountains is something to behold. Photos just do not do it justice. It is simply stunning. What a beautiful part of the country.

The pass connects the Little Karoo with De Rust- not far from Oudtshoorn. Unlike the Swartberg Pass, also connecting from Oudtshoorn (pron. oatshorn), It winds through the mountain range In a gentle almost flat blacktop,(tarmac), following the course of the river, crossing and re-crossing it about thirty times between the contorted wavy and folded rock strata. There are rest rooms at one point where there is a short walk, (a few minutes), to a high narrow waterfall plunging into a dark sheltered pool. For contrast drive over the high Swartberg pass from Oudtshoorn, consider an overnight at Prince Albert if time permits and drive back through the spectacular Meiringspoort Pass
