The pass to get to the falls is absolutely beautiful. When you get to the falls, there is a small museum at the bottom that you can spend a few minutes in. The walk to the falls is 200m up roughly cut steps in the stone. It is a 200m climb of about 20 degree slope, then a short climb down to the falls.

Wear comfy shoes to climb on the rocks. While it is lovely, we visited on Boxing Day, and the pools were filled with locals who were so drunk they could hardly stand. Now I understand why there is one death a year there.

Driving through Meiringspoort is defiantly an experience as it has breathtaking mountains surrounding the road and multiple rivers that you drive over.
The parking lot, toilets and general area for the waterfall are very well maintained with very friendly staff who will let you know if they have any weather coming in. To get to the waterfall its a very short hike over a pathway that's been built and upon reaching the waterfall you are able to walk down onto the rocks.
The waterfall itself is very pretty and would have been a very nice spot to sit and relax for a short while if the general area around the waterfall hadn't smelt like urine.

Beautiful scenery with pleasant, friendly staff. More water than last year, so the falls were more spectacular. Very pretty, indigenous flowers along the walk to the falls. Not to be driven past. A visit to the falls is a must if you are anywhere near the area. Over 60's with mobility issues will find a hiking stick makes this an easier walk during wet weather than using the handrails provided, which are great when its dry.

On the third day of our roadtrip we decided to give the N1 a skip, and take the back route to Cape Town from Prince Albert. This route which uses roads like The Swartberg Pass, and R62 through Oudsthoorn, Barrydale, Montagu, Ashton, Robertson and Worcester is definitely more scenic and definitely worth the extra 2 hours on the road.

One of the stops include the Meiringspoort waterfall, about 30 to 40 minutes outside of Prince Albert.

There is significant signage as you near the entrance to the waterfall so slow down when you start seeing you're close. There is safe parking out of the road for those wanting to take a swimming break. There is a short walk to the waterfall up some stairs, it isn't too strenuous, but you will feel your heartrate increasing. If you're stuggling. Take frequent breaks and look out onto the magnificent mountains in the pass. There's no rush to get to the water.

The water is crisp and fresh, and worth the stop. I love Meiringapoort Waterfall.

Who would have thought that there would be a waterfall in the middle of the Karoo?

While driving through the Meiringspoort Pass, we stopped at the waterfall. My partner had visited in the past, altough it was a cold and rainy day that time. The walk to the falls is not strenuous at all. I managed quite well in my flip flops. Moving between the pools can be a little tricky as the rocks are very smooth and slippery. The water is ice cold and provides a refreshing break from the Karoo dust and heat, even just by putting your feet in the water. Sitting on a rock, surrounded by mountains, you can't help but feel like you're surrounded by majesty.

Very scenic drive to a well kept spot. Neat parking and ablutions (on both sides of the road) and a visitors centre. A very short uphill walk with a rail to the waterfall. Almost feels like you didn’t earn your swim and the beautiful site after such a short walk.

We stopped at the clean and well maintained parking area provided. Toilets are kept clean and the little info centre serves as a fair little museum. It seemed very safe to leave your cars there as there is cleaning staff who were friendly and polite. It is a short, easy walk to the waterfall, maybe about 300m. It can easily be done by elderly people too, just take it slow. At the waterfall itself, you can clamber across rocks and even take a swim if you please. Otherwise just sit or stand and take in the beautiful scenery. People were swimming, others were tanning higher up against the rocks. It seemed quite safe. If you rush, you could see it all in probably 15 minutes. We took it slower but did not waste time as we had plenty of driving still to our destination. The stop probably took us 30-35 minutes. Or you could spend the day!

Stopped to stretch our legs and decided to explore the waterfall. It was really beautiful and would be a great place to swim in summer. It's not a difficult walk but easier in walking shoes......
