Some of the most wonderful pieces of art on display for all to see around the city. We did not find all of them but we got a fair amount of them throughout the city. If you are traveling through this city and spend a few hours going around the city to see these wonderful art works on display.

This is another town on Route 66 with Murals through out the town. Most of the 40 or so scattered about were done a couple over a 10 year period. We couldn't find a map of them so we just drove around the town a bit a sought out as many as we could find. It was fun and enjoyable.

Tucumcari has such potential to be a cool destination once more...it was once a really happening place. The murals are well-done and make the drive more interesting. During this time of COVID when all of the indoor attractions are closed, once can still view the murals and the old neon signs on Route 66.

The most murals I’ve ever seen, all in one city. I believe the brochure said over 50 murals, sprinkled around the area. I only saw about 5 or 6 as we were trying to make good time. Got photos of several, which I will add here. The ones that look like postcards are my personal favorites.

Best part of the one-night stay was driving around and finding the murals and taking pics. Several dozen of them: Native American, railroad, Route 66, Old West and Scenics. This region is a beautiful, desert area.

This was not exactly what I expected. I thought the murals would be concentrated in one area. However they are not, and rather scattered throughout the area. None the less it was still fun searching for them. They are impressive and give a little history of the town. There are shops and eateries in the area as well so you can make this as short or long an outing as you want.

As we were driving past the town decided to drive around and look for the murals. I could not locate a map on-line so we drove down to the small visitor center. They are in the process of updating the map as some of the murals are now gone.

We decided to just explore around. There are a couple that are just beautiful. Also found an old mission we also took some photos of.

This is maybe the poorest town I have seen. If have some time to kill it is a fun to explore. Some cool Route 66 sites to just take pics.

There are many murals, some better or more interesting than others. The city itself looks like a mixture of deserted and destroyed. We drove through all 5 exits of the city all along Route 66. Due to the hour and Covid19 anything of historic nature was closed. It must be that once I-40 developed the city was really left behind.

While travelling Route 66 Murals are available at a lot of towns and Tumcumcari is no exception, some fantastic pieces of local art work, well worth locating.

There are murals on the sides of buildings along Route 66. We had a great time driving around to look at them and see which ones we could find. It can take a few minutes or as long as you want. We were there for probably about an hour. In better weather, you could probably make it a walking tour. Lots of great photo ops. Best part is that it's completely free. You also get to see old motels that aren't open but the store fronts are still there. There are also a lot of old cars and one place has several old trucks, signs, and gas pumps. Lots of nostalgia. The chamber of commerce has a map with the mural locations on it.
