About Taos Fly Shop
Taos Fly Shop is a full service year round fly shop. It was the first fly shop in Taos, opened in 1980 by Taylor Streit. Taylor closed the shop in ’87 though he continued to guide the area while authoring three books on the subject. After a 17 year hiatus, Taylor’s son Nick re-opened the Taos Fly Shop in 2004. Nick still owns and operates the store while Taylor manages the guiding business, using the shop as his base. We pride ourselves at being friendly and helpful, providing an easy going, non-intimidating atmosphere. We carry a great selection of equipment for all price ranges and experience levels. Whether you’re looking for technical advice on equipment, the “hot fly”, or your first fly rod, Taos Fly Shop is happy to help.

Ive been feeding fish from a hook for many years and didnt know if that could ever change. I was resigned to the idea that fishing was not my thing but my love for nature and the rivers of NM made me persist. I'm thankful I kept trying and went to this school. I was a participant in the Taos Fly Shop fishing school and guided fishing. It was an amazing experience that I will treasure for the rest of my life. From the moment I met my guides until the time I caught my last fish was fantastic! Starting off with casting classes that built on each other crescendoing with a confident cast. It was practical Instruction that you could understand and have fun learning. Taking it to the river was a climax worth waiting for. Learning to fish instinctively from Nick was eye opening. His perspective on the river and his understanding of the environment was remarkable. Not only did my amazing guides Chris and Ryan seem to know the river better than the fish, they also seemed genuinely concerned that we caught fish. Their guidance, advice and help was always welcomed and always delivered with professionalism and fun. Their excited and positive attitudes made learning a blast. I've fished in NM my whole life and feel like I learned more in two days with the team from Taos than I have my whole life. We caught both brown and rainbow trout at a rate that made me fell like a pro. I left this trip with a cast that I am confident in, as well as a plethora of other tools. This experience will undoubtedly make me a better Angler. Watch Out Trout!!

I'm a 30+ year local & don't normally go on guided fishing trips but circumstances dictated I give it a try. I scheduled a trip with guide Ron Sedall whom I've known for 10 years & finally learned how to fish our famous local river the "Rio Grande". Ron is patient, encouraging & knows the river & how to catch the browns & rainbows that inhabit our home waters. We fished both "Euro-Nymphing" & "Dry/dropper" techniques which were dependent on time of day, water temp & cloud cover. I caught lots of fish using both techniques & the day ended hooking in to my biggest fish of the day, a glorious 16" rainbow at the confluence of one of the local tributaries. Fantastic day, lots of fun & easy to be with all day long - you'll love it!

For the better part of a decade, Ron Sedall with Taos Fly Shop has been our go to guide for fishing in New Mexico and Colorado... Soon, we hope to also embark on a trip to South America where he knows where the big boys hang out as well! Here are three reasons why I will always go with RON! 1) He knows what he is talking about... his knowledge of the fish and how to catch them is top notch. 2) He is honest. He will not lie to you just for your tip cash! 3) He always finds a way to make it happen! If you want SIZE or NUMBERS, Ron is the guide for you. If you want an excellent experience and the best adventure for your money, swing by Taos Fly Shop or give them a call and book your next quest with them…. wade trips, float trips or just some great fishing conversation, these guys are the best.
