Snow was packed down on the trail. 11,040 feet and lovely day!!!! A few hikers on the trail.... But not overly crowded.

This is definitely a moderate hike. You need to be in decent shape. Kids can certainly do it if in decent shape. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow. The terrain is uneven for most of the trail, rocks, logs, roots, shallow rises and falls in elevation. It is uphill all the way up to the lake. The downhill return is a breeze. Light traffic of other hikers when we were there. Part of the hike follows the river, otherwise, it is typical mountain forest. The lake and surrounding mountain views are gorgeous. Great place for photos.

Great, quick hike to the lake is rewarded with incredible views. For the more adventuresome hiker, use this as a stopover on the way up to NM's highest peak!

Wonderful trail with incredible views. Definitely not for the weak of spirit/heart. Very steep, but worth it for the views. Unfortunately NM is having a drought and the lake was low, but still stunning overall.

Crowded with only about 50% of the hikers wearing their masks. Beautiful area and a trail more challenging than I thought.
