Wonderfully instructive photo tour with carefully chosen locations, great company food, and scenery! My stepfather in law and I drove from Santa Fe in the early hours to catch and photograph the sunrise over the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, and that was just for starters! Followed by a hearty Taos breakfast, (when asked “Red or Green” - referring to which chiles you want, the correct answer is “Christmas”) we embarked on a variety of location shoots combining local colors and history with next-level photographic expertise at every turn. Michael and Lauri are an amazing team and I would recommend this experience to anyone who wants a true ‘locals only’ experience and all of the advantages of that experience and know-how. 6 out of 5!

It’s always a pleasure to work with enthusiastic photographers like Paul and Phil who embrace the landscape photo opportunities we have around Taos. Even better when they like the local fare. :-) Copious consumption of chile helps promote creativity. Maybe that’s why so many artists live or visit here! Thank you Paul and Phil for your appreciation of our local area and for being good company on a great photo day!

Michael was very helpful in teaching all about photography from basics to advance. He is very knowledgeable and friendly and informative. Lauri was an absolute delight and very helpful during our photography trip. Michael was very patient and worked with me every step. I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Lake Clark National Park and came away with some great bear shots and better oriented for future photography.

It was our pleasure to have worked with you. We both loved your enthusiasm and engagement with the landscape and with the bears. Glad to hear you came away with some bear shots you were pleased with and that you took away information to help you with future photo opportunities whether it be in Alaska or elsewhere. - Michael & Lauri

Micheal and Lauri are just great people to be around. Her energy and willingness to help in anyway combined his dedication and expertise made the trip fantastic. The main goal of our trip was to see northern lights. Micheal's meteorological knowledge, technical expertise and photographic eye combined to get us the experience of a life time. Of the 3 nights that we hunted for Aurora, 2 were absolute successes. The first night delivered so completely that everything else was really just icing on the cake. Our small group tour was just the right size. There were six of us. We managed to have two evenings each with two different locations with amazing Aurora views. During one of our days at the lodge Micheal spent some time giving us constructive feedback about our work and was available to answer questions about tools and techniques. My favorite part was that he offered to walk us through his photographic workflow which i think will pay dividends in the future. My wife and I hope to spend more time traveling and capturing images once we no longer need to work our day jobs which will result in us generating thousands of images with limited access to servers for backup. Micheal's flow solves some problems that had not occurred to me yet so i am very grateful. Most of our group spent additional time in Alaska after the tour which i would strongly recommend. There is so much to see and do that just doing the tour would miss out on so many other places to explore! Not to mention having more chances to see the same environments with different weather. You should plan to at least spend a few more days. Speaking of, Micheal really helped us out by making some recommendations for how to spend our additional time. I wish that i had consulted him earlier than i did, but when i showed him our planned itinerary he made some excellent recommendations for a couple of sunrise sunset spots and suggested that we break up our drive differently because we were not spending enough time in one of the most beautiful parts of Alaska! That tips really helped us out and i am very grateful. This was my first time going on a multi day photography tour such as this and it won't be my last. Having a professional artist who knows the area can really help you to get the most out of your time and was worth every penny.

Thanks Trevis for all the great feedback and sharing your experience with us and Alaska. You and Chrissy rock! We love seeing couples that share the same passion like photography the way you two do. You guys were also great participants to have and be around. We both loved your engagement with the landscape and enthusiams and willingness to sacrifice some sleep and regular meal times as to not miss a potential good photo op. Your hard work sure paid off as you showed us some killer shots from our trip. Great stuff and thanks for sharing your aurora shot! Glad you stayed on and explored Alaska on your own. I would love to see more of our workshop and tour participants do this. We wish you guys great success and joy photographing wherever you go.

Alaska's sights and other experiences are well known - this trip offered plenty of them ! But possibly less well-known is the expertise offered by this trip's leaders - Michael and Lauri de Young. The knowledge they gained by living in Alaska for 18 years is very evident when one travels with them. Their logistical execution, a crucial part of any trip, was flawless, which allowed them to focus even more intensely on providing us with premier photographic opportunities and a full realization of the full beauty of the Alaskan tundra and Aurora evenings.

My wife and I have taken 6 private photo tours with Michael and Lauri. Most recently, we took a quick trip with them to Alaska. They have the ability to check off all the boxes for those that want a successful photography tour. My photo tour goal is to come home with a great experience and have confidence that I captured images that I can be proud of regardless of the conditions and the light. Michael has a heavy weather and photo background that results in getting to the right place at the right time and setting up to get the best photo possible for the conditions. He has a tremendous body of commercial image work that lends confidence that he knows how to help you get that wall-hanger. He also is an accomplished, patient teacher. Michael and Lauri know how to create the experience. On our latest tour we rode in a helicopter to a glacier, took a train ride to glacier lake, and did some hiking to view wildlife. Lauri is the perfect hospitality compliment, She takes care of all of the other creature comforts and details so that Michael can focus on photography. Lauri is amazing in her ability to anticipate needs and follow up on requests. Both are avid adventurists. They both work extremely hard to make the experience memorable. If you want to have confidence that you are going to get the best experience possible with the given conditions, and want to hire the best expertise possible to help you learn photography and capture the best images, then book a tour or workshop with them. We are already planning time with them in Alaska in 2022

Wow! Thank you, Gail, for the extremely kind words. Michael and I were thrilled that we were able to arrange for some unique and memorable experiences for you and Mary Ann. From what I've seen in some sample photos you've shared with us, you captured images that you should be very proud of. Impressive work! Thank you for being willing to get up early on a couple of those days in order to get "the shot". We look forward to your adventure with us in 2022. - Lauri D
