John Dunn Bridge is closed, no access to Blackrock Hotsprings
The Central Federal Lands Highway Division (CFLHD) of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in cooperation with Taos County and the Bureau of Land Management (Taos Field Office), started construction that has closed the area to all access. The project includes the rehabilitation of the John Dunn Bridge , and the replacement for the Rio Hondo Bridge on Rio Hondo creek. The area is closed until December 1, 2022

Awesome relaxed and natural hot springs.
Super easy and short hike down if you’re in ok shape. Really cool cave along the hike, most popular swimming spot in Taos nearby. Very pretty and relaxing completely natural hot springs (yes that means there is algae). Just like Manby hot springs, locals consider it to be a nude hot springs and 90% of locals go nude, so DO NOT go if you’re going to be huffy about nudity.

    Amazing hotspring even in January!
Amazing experience for adventurers! We went in mid January. There are 3 pools, but the farthest one was the only hot one. Even though there was snow on the ground, the pool was nice and hot, I would say around 90 degrees. While we were there, 7 other people showed up, but it was wonderful conversation and enough room for all of us. The hike is not long or too hard, just be prepared for it to be rocky. I appreciated having shoes with tread. The drive to the trail head is really winding and kind of narrow, but we were able to do it without 4 wheel drive. This was a beautiful gem with a gorgeous view by the river. I highly recommend!

Beautiful scenery. Hike wasn’t too bad. Spring was crowded with very minimal room to get in springs. Some said due to river still being high. Just the hike was worth it.

This hotspring is beautiful and wonderful, however, do your research and be smart. My friends and I didn't. Last weekend we were visiting from out of town and didn't know the area that we were in. We went to the hotspring after the sun had set (around 6) and after relaxing for a few hours ended up getting our lives threatened by an active shooter and were chased through the woods. I don't want anyone else to be put in this situation so please be safe, don't go at night if you are not a local, and maybe don't go at all if you are not with a man. I hate that this is the reality of our world but it is, so please just be safe.

You get to the springs via a (comfortable) dirt road and a short easy hike. Several pools, the warmest is (just) ~97 deg but this allows you to soak as long as you want. Great views of the river and the canyon. Almost guaranteed to meet an eclectic bunch of characters. If a thunderstorm comes by well you are in a hot pool.

We went in the late afternoon. My husband initially had some concerns about the primitive road in the last segment and the late hour. But we followed the gps to the top, then found a steep trail and some rocks to clamber over to get to the pools (10-15 minute walk), one of which was just a few stones from the river. It was relaxing to sit in the warm pool and then take a dip in the cool river. Scenery was lovely and in our visit included a half-moon over the canyon, a couple with 2 children, and several 20-somethings with minimal to no clothing. It’s all good if nudity doesn’t bother you (my husband’s attitude improved). We chatted a little with some of the other visitors, but mostly just enjoyed the water and view of the canyon. We left about 20-30 minutes before nightfall, as I wouldn’t want to find my way over the stones and drive through the narrow roads at dark.

Depending upon your hiking skill, this was an easy to moderate 10 minute hike down to the riverbed and ultimately to the hot spring. The water temp was wonderfully warm. The spot does get rather crowded, but a nice side trip while visiting the area.

If you want to check out hot springs, go somewhere else!
The 2 track is not fit for cars. The hike down the hill is treacherous and the hot springs is algae covered!
