Road trip “junkie” takes a break in Santa Rosa, NM.
Traveling back to Cali toward the end of a 8,000 mile road trip I needed an oil change. I stopped at a garage in Santa Rosa. Walked around town a bit and went to the Route 66 Auto Museum. Turns out “Bozo,” the museum owner also owns the garage across the street where my truck was and many of the museum cars were built The museum was very cool, brought back a lot of memories for me and very well worth the visit. They guys there were real friendly and I would recommend Bozo’s garage to anyone in need! Thanks Bozo!

    So many Classics
Stopped here while waiting to check into my hotel for the night. I loved all the classic cars and I was surprised to see some for sale. If I had the money, I would have bought a few... they were nice! They also have a gift shop and some cute photo opps. It's definitely worth a quick stop. Admission is $5.

Easy access off I-40 (120 mi east of Albuquerque) - perfect rest stop if you enjoy old cars
Full of Route 66 gifts and memorabilia, with a seating area that’s just like a diner out of Happy Days. Most of all, for $5 per person, you can see over 30 vintage cars and get very close to check them out. A wide range from hot rods to roadsters.

A stop well worth making and what a fabulous collection
This was a lovely place to stop and take in a wide range of fantastically restored cars from Chevy to Ford to Buicks and even a VW bug and many more. The memorabilia, gas station and car promotion material were fantastic. The little shop has everything and during the week the cafe is open too. A stop here will take you back to the 49’s , 50’s and even the 60’s with all the cars and history keeps under one roof in Preston’s condition…. A must stop and see on your trip along route 66. We loved it especially as we came all the way from Australia to see it.

    Worth a look
Considering location this is a nice museum and worth a look. The collection is very eclectic you will see drivers not trailer queens. The little items are very impressive. I enjoyed this but do not expect perfect restorations. There are lots of route 66 memorabilia as well as the cars. The gift shop is fun to stroll through as well. If in town take a look and enjoy!

Feeling disappointed 🥺. I called at 1:57 pm and the lady was nice and said she was closing early at 4pm for a prior engagement. We were about a hour and a half away. So we knew by the time we got there we could have about 30minutes or so which was okay. As we wanted to find something to do with my daughter who is going to college in a near by city . We came to visit her for the day (since we don't live relatively close) only when we got there at 3:26 pm the door was locked and when I called again there was not a answer on the phone. My family was disappointed. We drove all the way here and didn't get to see any cars that were in display other than the ones outside!!!!

There were only about 30-35 cars to view in this smallish car museum, and too many were vintage 60s and newer. Only a dozen or so were truly rare examples. Many for sale at very high tariffs. Only a couple very high quality chassis off rebuilds. One can often see a comparable collection of classics at a weekend restoration club gathering. One major drawback was the prohibited opening of vehicle doors, reducing the interior view available to the paying public. There was little in the wy of printed historical background or provenance on the vehicles themselves. Except for the Auburn and the dazzling Chevy cab-over restoration, I was not that impressed by the collection. It took less than an hour to see the entire lot. Lastly, the caretaker was obnoxiously vaping at the cash register - this after arriving 15 mins late to open the museum. Bad form, dude.

I hope the content of the museum is not reflected in the content of the gift shop. Mostly empty shelves, dusty, very underwhelming. Dust in a museum = appropriate. Dust in the gift shop = not so much.

I love old cars and this was my 1st and only "route 66" experience. After seeing the gift shop, I lost interest in seeing the museum. Bought a small magnet and that was it.

I did not get the impression that I would get a sense of what it felt like to be a traveler along Route 66 "back in the day" or learn much about those things if I went into the museum. There wasn't any toe-tapping music, no excitement, no enticing vibe.

Having a few barely interesting trashed old cars outside I think does more harm than good, as if they are supposed to be examples.

The trunk benches are wonderful.

We went to a place in Kentucky near Mammoth Cave a couple years ago that had the same problem. Went into their gift shop to buy tickets to an old west show, and got so turned off by the gift shop that we lost faith in buying tickets for the show.

What a great place to stumble upon! I have driven by it so many times but since I was traveling with several people and one was a man I thought it might be fun to check it out. So many shiny, pretty things to look at. The owner is extremely nice as well. The man with us loved it and knew all the makes and models without looking at the info in the cars and trucks windows. He was very pleased!

What a neat experience!! So clean and put together. Beautiful cars, friendly owners. Nice gift shop. Plan on opening cafe soon. We could have visited with the father and son all day. Very knowledgeable and friendly. My 10 year old was intrigued by their stories as well. Thank you for such an awesome experience!!
My family says it’s awesome, must see!!

Fun inexpensive stop with friendly lady host. It's not on the scale of the Rte 66 museums in Kingman AZ or Clinton OK but certainly another delightful stop along your Rte 66 travels. The gift shop was really good and we bought several items that we didn't find elsewhere. Clean rest rooms.
