Had lunch at the Jockey Club yesterday. It was our first time there and we had a blast. We are staying at the Ruidoso Motor Coach Ranch and they give you a pass to get in free and also free valet parking. Not a bad deal! Anyway we had the fried chicken livers and the chicken salad stuffed avacado. Excellent!... More

...that is what Ruidoso Downs Race Track used to be called. Lots of things to like about it. Free seats. Free parking. The shade on the grandstands gets wider and wider as the afternoon progresses....and the shade plus Ruidoso altitude and amenable climate makes RDRT a nice downscale track...and perhaps my fave anywhere. They also serve good green chile cheeseburgers... More

This is kind of a " minor league " racetrack with thoroughbred racing. Many of the races are only 300 yds. The more normal length races ( 5 or 6 furlongs) are unfortunately run on an interior track where it's tough to see much of the race from the lower( general admission) level. Those who have never been to a... More

This was such a fun afternoon to go watch the Horses race! It was really fun getting to bet on the horses once we got the hang of how to bet based on the horses, the jockeys, and the trainers! Best thing is you can bet as little or as much as you want, so it made it fun for... More

Always great to spend the afternoon watching the ponies run. Had been years since I had been to the Downs, not much has changed. It was clean and maintenance seemed to keep up with trash disposal and cleaning during the afternoon. Several snack and/or drink bars available helped with time spent in line for refreshments. Ladies room was clean and... More

It was tons of fun and the weather was great! Ruidoso Downs is classic horse racing and has perfect seating sections, food and drinks.

Have not been to a horse race before so I cannot compare it to others. Having said that, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility and the helpfulness of the staff. It was fun watching the horses and you get caught up in the excitement of the races. An excellent place to people watch as well. Go early... More

First of all, get tip sheets on the races beforehand===the night before you go if possible. Go to Allsups and ask for the tips sheets for the day you will attend and then study up in advance. I limited myself to $5 bets on 3 or 4 horses each race and did pretty good. I was up $178 over the... More

We have never been to a horserace before and was told this is a great activity to try out while in Ruidoso. If you have never been before it was a lot of fun and my teenage son and mother both had a great time. It is free to get in and the food is reasonably priced. They are open... More

The track was fast July 24th and was defiantly a crowd pleaser on Race 8. Thanks for a good time. Nice way to spend the day.
