This store is in the Rancho de Taos Plaza, just south of Taos. We went based on some advertisements we saw and it was worth the trip. The owners were very helpful and accomodating. We spoke about numerous paintings, baskets, pottery, jewelry and other artwork, some modern, some true antiques. The owner does some of the jewelry work in good with gorgeous opals. Highly recommend it you're looking for something special, not junk.

Family owned gallery with very knowledgeable owners. Have purchased jewelry, kachinas, carvings, pottery, & fetishes from
there. Prices are fair considering the quality of the art pieces. Had also made purchases at the father's shop in Chimayo which is now closed due to retirement. We would never travel to Taos without a visit. A few years back, knowing that my husband appreciated Glen Fred's kachinas, he received a call from the owner about a piece he had just received. Was purchased over the phone & was received in a timely manner.

We were drawn inside by a sign outside announcing a RC Gorman early years retrospective. Beautiful gallery with knowledgeable, friendly staff, eager and happy to share a lot of information. We didn't make a purchase this time but look forward to a return visit. Highly recommend.

I bought a second piece of work from this trading post by mail. I had to track it down by calling several times to see when my piece would be delivered. I was given wrong tracking numbers, incorrect information and was a frustrating experience. I spoke to the owner who really did not seem like he cared. No sense of customer service and will not return.

I've been to the Chimayo Trading Post twice recently, and I'm a little puzzled by some of the reviews stating how expensive it is. I'm also surprised by some of the photos--this is in in Ranchos de Taos, not Chimayo.

Okay, here's my review: The Chimayo Trading Post was recommended to me by a friend who has an extraordinary collection of southwest art and artifacts. I found an authentic vintage Navajo pearls silver necklace for my daughter for a very reasonable price, after searching online and at other shops in New Mexico. I returned with a friend at a later date and she also purchased Native American jewelry. This store carries high quality items which aren't available at the standard southwest gift shop--it should be more expensive because of the value of the merchandise. If you go there looking for cheap souvenirs, you're in the wrong place. It's definitely worth a stop if you're looking for the real thing.

These two galleries present the finest regional art including Pueblo pots, Mata Ortiz pots, jewelry etc. They offer all this at very fair prices as well as careful shipping for your purchases. I have bought from both galleries many times and have always been happy with my purchases.

Every time we come to Taos we stop at Chimayo Trading Del Norte. We enjoy talked with Mr. Abrums about the art and especially about the talented people who create the art. If you are looking for an authentic trading post experience, please stop here. He and his staff are very knowledgeable and carry an excellent variety of southwestern art.

We ended up buying a genuine Navajo Rug there at a very fair price compared to other shops in Santa Fe and Taos Plaza. The sales staff were friendly and helpful and gave us all the time we needed to look around and then make our selection.

What we like is that everything is Native American made whether old or new. There is no attempt there to sell copies or similar type things made in Peru or Mexico or Pakistan. Jewelry has hallmarks and rugs are labeled according to origin.

This was the best art gallery we found during a week of touring northern New Mexico. It is conveniently located right on Rt. 68 at the Ranchos de Taos plaza (back end of the church). Lots of parking right at the door. We found their art work to be reasonable (unlike many New Mexico galleries) and they carry a number of Taos and regional artists. The owner is very knowledgable and is not at all pushy. They also carry beautiful Navajo rugs, pueblo pottery, and gorgeous custom designed jewelry. If you are interested in purchasing local artwork, this is a must. You won't be disappointed.
