This store has great advertising . A glossy red brochure lures you to this tourist trap. It is in a remote location and is nothing like described. A much smaller "barn" than pictured. There is basically one room filled with overpriced socks, etc. This is not a bakery. There are zero fresh apple products. A small corner sells cherry cider and stale appearing apple pie slices. There is a fudge counter. It is NOT worth the trip nor would I stop if I was driving by!

We stopped here after a trip to Bridal Veil Falls. Got some really nice stuff and fudge. We sampled the cherry cider ice. The lady checking us out was so very friendly, not only to us, but to everyone.
We ate at the restaurant and it was delicious!
Went back to store and got cherry cider ice to.go and she even remembered my name.
Definitely worth the stop! Would go back!

There’s a big gift shop, a restaurant and more. I ate at the restaurant that specializes in exotic meats. I had a elk burger which tastes normal. I didn’t like the fries. The burger was so filling I ate 7/8 of it and skipped dessert. I should’ve had apple pie 1st…that’s what they are known for…oh well.

Went for a ride with the little while the boys stayed home to relax. Found our way here. Found all the souvenirs we needed to bring back home plus some. Finding local fudge is a thing for us. We have tried a lot. When i tell you the salted Carmel fudge is the best. belive me

If you pass by and are curious at quick stop won’t hurt. There’s not much of interest inside. I was expecting something more. House decorations, seasonal stuff and some children’s stuff. A small area for fudge in the corner. Don’t go out the way for here thought if it’s not on your route.

We were driving from Carlsbad to White Sands, so this was a great stop for a break. We all bought a cider slush and shopped around. Really enjoyed seeing all the neat items in the store.

Very tight aisles to walk around in... very cluttered... mostly inexpensive souvenir items. They also have baked goods, ice cream, and fudge. Tight parking lot; outdoor bathrooms.

I've driven past the location for years, going up to hike or picnic in the mountains. Finally stopped last year with relatives to see what they had to offer. I wish I'd stopped before... they have the best fudge. It's awesome and fairly priced. Lots of interesting stuff inside with things that appeal to kids and adults. Don't miss the model train running around the ceiling. We stopped again yesterday... made the trip just for the fudge. It's as good as I remember.
Noticed in a previous review by someone else fussing about the restrooms. Yes, it's an outdoor pit toilet... but one of the nicer ones that I've seen. Between my time in the military and my times in state/national parks, I've used my share of less pleasant toilets. This one is clean, handicap equiped, with decent toilet paper and hand sanitizer. It's heated in the winter and doesn't stink in the summer. There are lights. If you've got to go, there are definitely worse places. I appreciate that they provide a restroom.

We were spending some time at our cabin in Ruidoso and had seen the placards for the Apple Barn for years, so we decided to make a special trip out to check it out. What a disappointment. It's basically a store with a bunch of junk for sale with a snack bar. I was expecting it to be more Apple themed, with Apple food products.
We had driven all the way there, so we decided to check out the snack bar. It was mass chaos. No order and confusion reigned, and it was hard to determine what was actually available. Looks like they had apple pie, but not much else Apple. So, we went with the fudge since it was easy. The fudge was good (hence the 2 stars) but definitely not worth the 2 1/2 hour trip to get it.
And the "toilets" are basically holes in the ground. The smell will knock you down, and my kids refused to use them.
So, basically if you are driving by on the way to Cloudcroft, then it might be worth the stop; otherwise not worth a special trip.

You are right! CHAOS... You came in the midst of a wine festival with 15 thousand people who suddenly got rained on and headed down the mountain. 2,000 of them came to the Old Apple Barn this last weekend. Parking lot packed, store jammed with people, pit toilets... well..... filled. Two weeks before apple season is in full gear and we only sell local fruit.
With the crowds there was no way you could see all of our apple products: Apple Pie, apple cider slushies, apple suckers, apple peelers, apple corers, apple themed rugs, kitchen towels, apple salt and peppers, caramel fudge apples, caramel apple pie fudge..... but no local apples yet. The orchard is behind us and opens next week.
MYSTERY.... You have given 68 reviews. By coming to our Trip Advisor review site you could have seen what we offer and saved the disapointment. There are photos of what we sell and plenty of great reviews saying what we do and how we operate. We also have lots of photos and reviews on Facebook Old Apple Barn.
We hope you give us a second chance. Like our Old Apple Barn facebook front page and you will get the schedule for Cherry and Apple season and when there is Upick.

We make cherry cider year round but cannot ship it. It must be purchased here. Heat, time and handling make shipping a no no.
