My wife and I have been here many times and always get something out of the visit. This site can be experienced on many different levels. The ride from Santa Fe goes through some truly spectacular scenery, the architecture is beautiful and calming, the whole...More

The chapels were lovely and well worth the drive to see. They have plans to expand the complex and add more things to do there. It is a very reverent place.

This place has become very commercialized since the last time I visited years ago. That's just fine, as the reason for coming here will always be the same. Very tranquil place. Truly blessed to be able to go.

My husband and I are both practicing Catholics and I have always wanted to see the place. That being said, I do not think you need to be Catholic to appreciate the peace and serenity that both of us felt on our visit. We took...More

You won't likely stay long, but the chapel is so very beautiful and unlike grander churches and cathedrals. Lovely!

El Santuario de Chimayo compound is a peaceful respite for persons of all faiths. As one walks through the grounds, one immediately notices hundreds of crucifixes and photos of loved ones left by pilgrims seeking solace for suffering or offering thanks for redemption. The sight...More

This side trip was interesting. If you are Catholic it would be considered a "Mecca". If you are not a participating catholic it would be hard to understand the traditions and meanings of this site. The architecture is beautiful and gives you an idea of...More

This place is historically interesting, but I think one needs to be Catholic to fully understand what happens here. There is a well of "miracle dirt" that supposedly has healing properties. We were treated rudely by a woman as we entered the chapel. We felt...More

Beautiful church---and amazing history here. Visited on a Sunday morning just as 10:30 mass was about to begin. The sanctuary is very rustic with amazing retablos on both walls near the altar and the historic 'Lord of Esquipula' crucifix. The earth at the site is...More

It is never too busy to be there except during Holy Week when pilgrims walk to the sanctuario from many miles away. At least that has been my experience.

Not sure as i'm not a local. Suggest you call Sacred Heart or Santuario and ask about local transportation for Good Friday service.

We visited as tourists and are not Catholic, but I can tell you it is a very moving and beautiful place no matter what religion you practice.
