This church was very real and peaceful--of and for the people. We arrived during the last open hour of the day and it was especially quiet which we appreciated. We are interested now to read more about the history of this beautiful church.

The whole experience was great. The artwork inside both the churches is amazing. I spent more time than I expected here. It's very peaceful and I would love to go back.

We arrived at the Santuario on a rainy afternoon but that did not dampen the spiritual experience one bit. The crucifix inside the chapel is beautifully hand crafted/painted while the room filled with crutches and braces makes you realize what a holy place this is...More

I enjoyed the visit. The churches were lovely and spiritual. I did think was a bit commercialized with too much focus on the gift shops.

Visited the church 20 years ago and never forgot it. Is a must see when visiting NM. Church is quaint but beautiful. It's a special place to see and visit. There is a small room next to the church where there are old crutches hanging...More

Whether you're a devout Catholic or totally secular, the Santuario has the ability to impress with its beautiful setting and unusual blend of Catholicism and regional religion from the area. The scenic drive to Chimayo is worthwhile on its own, but combined with the Santuario...More

We sat in the sanctuary and participated in a day's mass. The worshippers obviously did not need a soaring cathedral with all its accoutrements to express their devotion. The simple, hand hewn decorations were moving. The chamber with sacred dirt is beside the main sanctuary...More

OPEN ON THE WEEKENDS! We almost did not go because the hours listed on another site stated that the Santuario are closed on Sat and Sun. They are open daily from 10:00 to 5:00 from October to April. In the other half of the year...More

Not sure as i'm not a local. Suggest you call Sacred Heart or Santuario and ask about local transportation for Good Friday service.

We visited as tourists and are not Catholic, but I can tell you it is a very moving and beautiful place no matter what religion you practice.
