Not worth going unless recently stocked !!
Jul 2020
Reverse the price increase was $20 for 5 fish last year now $20 for 4 fish
Stock more often, many times a week or two after stocking the fishing is pathetic, then not restocked for another 30 days. The restrooms are closed, the fish cleaning station is closed. I fished at opening 7am until 1pm on July 3rd 2020 since their closure earlier in the year. I managed 2 catch 2 small trout. Families with children didn't catch any. Many people only caught one. The sign in the check in station stated last stocking was Febr. 2020. The lakes were at full capacity. I counted over a hundred vehicles, people were everywhere, many unable to fish along the banks. Had to cast in and step way back from the lake.

No thank you!

My husband and I just moved here from Michigan and not being from around here we weren’t sure where to go, so a co-worker of mine suggested we should go check out Sandia Lake. BIG MISTAKE!! As we pull into the park there’s the sign with the park rules and it’s stated NO PETS ALLOWED. What type of crap is that?! Just another strike on my list for this state. Sorry not sorry I’m not impressed with this state at all. You can keep your hot weather

Worth the price

I took my son for his 13th birthday on 7/28/19 and we had a phenomenal time. We took home several large catfish as did most of the other people fishing. You have to understand that there are only two parts of the day when fish bite, so if you aren't fishing within those times, you aren't going to have much luck. I would recommend bringing your own bait as it's expensive at the shop, but it does work on the fish. The staff was amazing and gave us tips on what to use in order to catch, they did let us know that some people use corn to catch fish with some success, but I don't believe they purposely feed them corn and my son and I actually took a can ourselves. One of the employees would stop and talk to my son on his routine drives around the lake (I wish I would've gotten his name) and he told us what part of the lake was best and even gave my son a fishing rod and a metal stake fishing rod holder that made my son's day! With that said, my only two gripes about Sandia are: 1) for the amount of money you pay per person to fish, you should be allowed to leave the area and come back in as long as you have your receipt and wrist band. I forgot numerous items at home that we had to due without because we couldn't leave. 2. having the option to buy a seasonal or yearly pass. All in all, we'll be back very soon.

Expensive and NO fish
Aug 2018
They feed fish prior to opening. $20 per person is too expensive to walk out of there with not a bite. Can get very crowded, and way too many geese. No a place for your little ones as you will have to fight off geese chasing them the whole time.

The Fishing can be Great!
May 2019 • Couples
My wife and I have fished at Sandia Lakes for nearly 10 years. The fishing is great through the weekend after a fresh stocking of fish. Sandia Lakes staff could improve the fishing by checking creel limits and enforcing them. Too many people hide their extra fish in buckets and coolers. Creel limit enforcement would would extend the quality of fishing by perhaps and extra week after stocking.

Love this place but discovered something
Mar 2019 • Family
So, my family and I go very often to the lakes. Just a nice relaxing time spent at the lake. We rarely catch fish. Times we do catch I gut them and discover they have LOTS of corn piled in there stomachs. The staff must be feeding them before or after people are there so that fishing is poor. I couldn’t believe it. Everyone pays 20 or more per person. It shouldn’t be this way! We should be able to catch fish easily or at least with good effort but spending a whole 8 hours at the lakes and catching 2 fish is non sense!!! It’s toatlly a RIP OFF!! We will see if they get our business again.. very disappointed!!!!

STOP!!! RIP OFFS!!!

These people charge $20 a person to fish. We paid happily hoping to catch at least two fish per person. There were 8 of us fishing. 3 people caught one fish each in an 8 hour day. Then come to find out that these people feed the fish tons of corn before people get there so that they can make money! Never going there again!!

We wanted to go for a walk.

The Sandia Lakes is owned by the Sandia Pueblo. It cost us $3.19 total each to experience the park. We did not fish for trout but that's the main attraction here. The trees and area is beautiful.Canadian geese means poo on the sidewalk that circles the lake, but not a bother. Saw 6 cranes as well. We liked parking at 'the store' where you have to check in before going into the park as we felt it gave us sense of security versus an isolated trailhead. The park was mostly peaceful except for an occasional truck on the nearby two-lane road. The fall colors were beautiful. Picnic activity closed for the season.

Ok

Ok place to fish little shade. You do have to pay to fish. People do need to be taught how to properly release fish. Close to cities and town.
