If you are into the history of Budahism in Buhatan that is the place to go in the city. The show is interesting.

The location of Watch Tower is as strategic as the location of Trongsa Dzong. The pedestrian walk from watch tower till the Dzong is amazing.

Amazing display of culture and heritage .

If visiting Trongsa this is a must to see. You will be shown a great 20 minute video on Bhutan’s culture , and religious heritage right up to present day.
Then the displays / artifacts are amazing to view.
The panoramic views from the top of the tower are fabulous. Unfortunately you are not allowed cameras in so just be in the moment and enjoy.
Pictures are of the views outside the Tower.

A Must See Mueum

One of the highlights of our 14 days in Bhutan. If you have an interest in how Buddhism arrived, its many faces and its impact on Bhutan and the history of the Royal Family, you cannot afford to miss this site.

Very well done and comprehensive labeling in English to give you a basic insight into the world of Buddhism. One can understand how it is a way of life rather than a religion afetr visiting here.

This museum has a trove of Bhutanese artifacts, from clothing to masks to Buddhas. It also has a great view of the city from the top floor.

interesting Museum

The tower is set on a hill above the Dzong. Getting to Trongsa is quite an ordeal as the roads are bad. But once you arrive, it is a special place. The museum is in a former watch tower. You can't take any bags or cameras into the museum. First you watch a movie in English then you walk up five stories, each with displays of history and religion. It was well laid out. And there were great views into the valley, including the new hydro dam under construction. We ate lunch in the cafe on the ground floor - it was so-so.

Nice museum with fantastic views

Museum about Buddhism, Bhutan buddhism development and political & royal history of the country. Interesting. Starts with short introductory video to give you a basic knowledge.

Exhibits have English labels. I was more interested in the royal family history. Interesting exhibits include the king’s crown that has a head of a bird on top. Even if you are not into history or religion, it is interesting enough. Spent about 45 min (including the 10 min video). Much better than Paro museum.

Best view on the top observation tower. Can see the village, valley, terrace field, Trongsa Dzong and even the currently still building hydro station. Too bad cameras are not allowed.

Eleven very interesting galleries!

Stopped while on the way from Bumthang to Phobjikha. What a beautiful museum. Has 11 galleries that tell you about the history and culture of Bhutan. The small theater is beautiful, where you will be shown a 15 minute film. The view from the top of the watch tower is amazing. You can see the Trongsa city, the Dzong and a snaking river. Photography is not allowed once you are inside the museum and you have to deposit your cameras/phones in the locker at the ticket counter.

Trongsa Musuem - Amazing insight and clarity on history.

We visited the museum midmorning. No cameras or cell phones allowed. The original function was a guard tower as it over looked the valley and then became a point to pay taxes. We were shown a great AV presentation on its history, local history and how Bhutan has progressed. We found out about the royal family, and cultural depth of Bhutan. As you walk up the layers of the museum the artefacts are stunning as ell as the detailed descriptions (in English). The view form top level is stunning but no camera to remember it by. Out guide Thinley explained the religious and cultural aspects of the museum. A must to see. Note, if feel the cold, wear warm clothes as inside it is very cool with so much stonework. Also steps to each level.
