The gigantic statue in the entry hall gives a taste of the theme of this museum. It probably is everything you always wanted to know about Skanderberg and does feel rather like a personality cult after a while. However, anyone wanting to understand, Albanian and...More

The museum, inaugurated in 1981, is situated inside the castle walls, which date back to the fifth and sixth centuries A.D. Designed by Enver Hoxha's daughter and son-in-law, this museum, inside the castle complex, and its spacious seven-level interior displays replicas of armour and paintings...More

We were so impressed with how well this museum was put together with such beauty. The explanations were all in Albanian and in English so easy to understand.

I found this museum was not very interesting. The theme of the museum is Albania's national hero Skanderbeg. However, not a lot of the objects in the museum seem from the time of Skanderbeg, most seem to be replicas or newer objects. This gives the...More

The museum is all about Skenderberg the national hero who is everywhere. He kicked out the Ottoman invaders for some 20 years. The museum charges a very low admission price (one euro or so) and has 3 floors with Skanderberg articles. It is not spectacular,...More

In spite of the fact that it was done not only to praise Skenderbeg, but to praise the tyrant Hoxe. In spite of the fact that the designer was Hoxha's daughter (an architect) - the building is a masterpiece. there are lovely views from the...More

"Museum" is being generous - at least my understanding of the word is that it should be based on historical findings and evidence-based, and not on legend and nationalism. Once having overcome my irritation over the missing evidence, it was, however an interesting display of...More

There is a parking spot very near the castle. From there you can walk to the castle. The castle door should be open even if the Museum is closed, so you can go around taking photos near the watchtower.
