A very large castle with great views in all directions. We were surprised by the number of people who live within the walls which makes the place more unique. Several options for lodging, eating and shopping.

Great views of the Unesco city from the top, and a pleasant but very steep walk up cobbled streets. Avoid eating up there, as the food not great and aimed at day trippers.

Berat is a great break from Tirana and a very interesting tour with loads of inter-religious history. Good shoes with lots of traction are a must - the streets are very slippery and you could walk all day while in Berat.

It's a tough, steep walk up to the top but well worth it. We were surprised at how quiet and peaceful it was. It's less of a fortress and more like an old town, so stroll around, take in the view and stop for lunch...More

If you visit Berat, you have to go to the Castle. It's the only castle in the world that has houses and inhabitants. You can see Berat from there, during nights is amazing!

Berat Fortress represent an impoertant part of Albanian History. Historic buidings from Otoman and Bizantic times are nicely preserved. The View from the fortress hill is fantastic especially before sunset. There is a lot still to invrsted in this place but the potintial is great.
