When your in the town you must see this monument, you cannot miss not seeing it as there are always hundreds of people there. You can purchase reeds, gifts, incense and all you needs including releasing the birds from a small cage. It is also an ideal place to go window shopping, hardest part is finding a place to park... We went on the last evening of the Korat Festival to pay our respects to Ya Mo, the patron of Korat city, Nakhon Ratchasima Province as well as Isan and the eastern provinces of Thailand. There were 1000s of people enjoying the Festival which is a major fundraiser for the Thai Red Cross.

Area busy with many locals and tourists. Booths sell flowers etc for offerings, be sure to remove your shoes when going to the statue. Plenty of stalls nearby selling food and other items. Historical site, part of the original city wall and gate are just behind the statue and good for photos.

Okay to see if you know the story behind her. Few shops selling offerings and a lot of tourists. Parking is an absolute night mare!

This statue is the proud symbol af the female freedom fighter, from back when Thailand was invaded by Laotians, many hundred years ago. On the square around the monument, you can find "Fortunetellers" - Hmmm I still wonder how they do it.. ?

I've been told by people in Korat that if you come to Korat (or Nakhon Ratchasima) and you don't visit Ya Mo Monument, it means you haven't been to Korat yet. So at the end of November, my nephew and his wife came to visit me in Korat, I took them to pay respect to Ya Mo there. They like... More
