Attabad lake is a much hyped about place but really not worth the trip if that is is the sole goal of your travel. That said, it’s dramatic history can still be witnessed by the top of the trees still growing. Hunza sports so many other beautiful lakes at prettier locations. The water is indeed as blue as you can see on the numerous pictures, as is the colour of the other lakes. The lake is still clean but with hotels and restaurants coming up, it’s fate maybe that of Saif ul Muluk.

We a group of 18 in Yongo tour. This lake is captivatingly beautiful after seeing all the brown and bare desolate landscape
We came here in April but despite the temperature being 3-4C, the sun light is really scorching. ( thats the reason for the 3 stars)
We had a boat ride round the lake, using the colourful long wooden boats. Unfortunately its not covered and we were really scorched and to top it all, the boat’s diesel engine is placed at the side of the boat, making what supposed to be a peaceful serene glide on the turquoise water a noisy diesel fume experience ( thats another reason for the 3 stars)
But despite all the above we all had a great time and if you are contemplating a visit here please do come !

Lake Attabad, of particular color, was formed as a result of the landslide of a village in the river below. In addition to causing deaths, the new lake submerged the Karakorum Highway which in that stretch was restored with five tunnels built by the Chinese. Now the lake has become a tourist attraction and there is also the possibility to rent boats for excursions.

The calmness of the surrounding creates such a spiritual phenomenon that one will find his body so light that makes you feels like being adrift in the air. There were few boats moored up at the lakeside, these boats were used to transport goods and passengers from one side of the lake to the other side before the Attabad Tunnel was constructed few months back. We chose to have a ride on the boat and tour the lake. The boat was motor driven and the sailor was the expert, the tour began and our boat started moving toward Gulmit on the other side of the lake. We were completely excited and enjoying the ride, our boat was sailing along a most exquisite water and fenced by mighty mountains. At a distance we can see part of the Attabad tunnel up high on the mountain, some construction work was still going on in the tunnel and the huge machinery can be seen engaged.
After a spectacular boat ride of half an hour, we return back to the bank of the lake. Capturing the stunning vista of the area in our camera, we hopped back again into our jeep and started our journey toward our next destination. Remember to take your camera to capture lots of photos and do take a boat ride, you will love it.

Breathtaking views. Clean blue water surrounded by tall mountains simply beautiful. The newly made tunnels are very nice and keep skirting around the complete Ataabad lake. Boats are plenty and in all sizes. You can hire a big boat for like 15 people for Rs: 2000 for almost an hour which actually is reasonably cheap. A must see.

One of my favourite places in Pakistan hands down!! It’s peaceful, it’s serene! Wow. It’s the turquoise-st Lake you get to see! There are also colourful boats and that makes one stunning picture. I could just sit there and enjoy the beauty. By the way, you can jet ski there. You obviously have to pay for it, which I didn’t do. They also have a restaurant there too. The entire lake is stretched out. So I Guess if you don’t like the crowd at the viewpoint, you can always make a short pullover at the side to take some pictures!

The lake was formed due to a massive landslide at Attabad village in Gojal Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan that occurred on 4 January 2010. The lake reached 21 km long and over 100 metres in depth.
It is about 20 minutes drive on karakoram highway from karimabad.
The sight is cool & soothing. One can spend several hours in boating & sitting on it's beach. The water is green-blue crystal clear & ice cold.

Attabad Lake has beautiful turquoise blue water. It is a14 km long and a narrow lake that basically follows the alignment of Hunza River.
It takes 2 to 2.5 hours to reach Attabad Lake from Gilgit. The road is excellent. There is no restaurant available on the lake site though there is one kiosk that provides drinks and snacks.
Karakoram Highway now moves along the lake. There are 3 tunnels one of which is a very long tunnel (4.5 km).
A must visit site when visiting Hunza Valley.
