In order to block the Karakoram Highway, many of the rocks with petroglyphs similar to those left were cut down. Right next to the Karakoram Highway (!), you will see this jumble of rocks with lots of inscriptions and graffiti. Frankly, it is hard to tell one from the other. I'm sure these inscriptions are very significant and historically important, but there seems to be no effort to secure or preserve this site. If this site was anywhere else, it would be a major tourist attraction. As it stands, I doubt it will survive.

As you cross karimabad area, 4 rocks situated on the road side are considered as sacred rocks. However the rocks are altered with many carvings, and honestly i didn't found the markings for which they are considered important. So may be an expert in history get any kind of clue but for a no man like me i only saw markhor carvings, that is mentioned there that those are made after the rocks were considered sacred.

The carvings on the rocks are located near Karimabad, Hunza. One doesn't need to plan a separate visit as these rocks are just located next to Karakoram Highway. These rocks have carving dating back to pre-historic times and also of the recent Budhist era up to 6th century AD.
Many carvings show Ibex in different forms which shows the importance of Ibex in the local culture. Some of the carvings perhaps have orders from the Kings written in some old language. For those interested in history, it's a must see trip when visiting Hunza Valley

Right off the KKH on the face of several large rocks are many carvings and drawings of animals, people, and text from several ancient periods.
Our guide was very good about pointing out some of the less obvious graffiti, including one lovely Chinese inscription which showed up much clearer in a photo than on the wall.

There are many of these sacred rocks , I hope more is done to preserve them , with the traffic right next to them I am pretty sure that they are being damaged.

Although, I am not aware of the history of these Sacred Rocks what I felt was traveling back in time when the unknown civilization was craving stones for whatever the reason was. If you're in Hunza do check out these stones. They'll tell you their own story.

Seriously, I'm not directly blaming anyone in particular but, WTF? You can't tell me some of these rocks weren't "accidentally" damaged building the Karakorum HIghway.
These are incredible. If you can get your control-obsessed brother in law to pull over for a few minutes, well worth the stop.

Located next to the Highway. There are four sections. No admission fee, no protection. So lucky they have not been eroded through time or worse, defaced. A real gem.

This cultural heritage site is located between Ataabad lake and Ganish village of Hunza, on Karakorum highway.
This place is called Haldeikish, however, these rock carvigs are of Kharoshti, Brahmi and Sogdian languages from Kanishka period.
Some portions are engraved with the images of ibex, that signifies the importance of that animal to Buddhists.
