Well my wife bought a kilo of each -- mango, orange, snakefruit, wax apple and the price was very cheap despite reports of people being overcharged. Lots of vegetables for sale too. We asked the price and each time we got a little discount.

If you want to try local fresh fruit, vegetables you can come to this market. Beside it, they also sell souvernir which you can bring home. You can enjoy horse riding too. Eating warm corn in the cool weather also will be a great choice.

The variety of fruits at this place is amazing. Even those living in Indonesia were surprised. Tasted some fruits I have never tasted before. These included Snake fruit, a local version of passion fruit known as Marquisa. Really sweet fruits. Don't know how they keep the fruits fresh!

Was there on friday afternoon, quiet with no visitors at all. Rode the horse around the market for 5 sgd, quite an experience.
The market itself is ok, fruit sellers are very warm and friendly. Some can even speak chinese. Fruits are good and fresh and reasonably priced.
Ended up buying more than planned.

Come to have a look.

Though the market is small, it’s is clean and well organized. All the fruits of Medan would be here. We are lucky as it’s season for rambutans, durians, orange....

We sat down for some local coffee and snacks. Even though it’s close to mid day, the weather was still cool at around 25c.

Having visited countess markets abroad
while traveling I have been fortunate to
know diverse and fresh produce. Berastagi
was disappointing in knowing how rich
the local soil is and having been to Medan
markets. I was assuming that Berastagi
was going to at least match Medan.
Not even close. If you are hoping to
see freshness and diversity , stick around
Medan. Nothing to really see in Berastagi
unless hiking the volcano's.
If you happen to visit the market, as with
any market do your best to avoid
the scammer vendors that will at least
double charge the tourists.
Admittedly it was partly my fault to
fall into a trap here. This particular
vendor quoted me one price, yet once
giving me my change, short changed me,
then completely denied her original quote.
Not a surprise really, just a reminder
to be sharper next time while bargaining.

I am from Malaysia and the fruits sold here are not new to me- all of these fruits can be found back home. But what makes the fruits here different is they are sooo fresh and sweet- maybe because of the weather plus recent volcano eruption? Anyhow the fruits were exceptionally sweet, especially oranges and passion fruit. Bought some tulip bulbs to grow back home. Manage to get some unique souvenirs too. Worth to drop by if you are around the area, but not worth it to travel purposely to visit.

Lovely smells of fresh fruit; some persistent vendors but they are not aggressive. Initial prices are outrageous e.g. 10,000.00 ID for one lemon. Know what you need and know how much you are prepared to pay. Great way to learn the names of exotic fruit and vegetables of which there are many on display.

very expensive and the seller esp a madam with kiosk located in the front side, at the edge of the road is far far away from hospitality. better not to bargain, or it will trigger them to be angry. really not good for tourism hospitality. the price could be 3-4 times from the ordinary price. markisa cost 80k per kg, plus the cost of ur ear for their anger. bad.

The local market is full of tropical fruits and beautiful flowers. Never seen in my life so many assorted local fruits. We buy some local boiled corns which are sweet and tasty. Must try!
