We have nothing but sweet memories with Matahari Tulamben. First time I dive was in 2012. Then I brought my pregnant wife. Second time was 2015, then with my two years daughter.
I was able to convince my wife to take open water course. And the instructor. Didik was attentive, patient and helpful to guide my wife to finish her open water certification.
The place is nice, serene, and the beach diving is simply amazing. The wreck is out of this world experience.
We are now living in Malaysia for the past two years, but this place will be definitely the first destination when the lockdown is over.

I was traveling solo and did my AOW with the dive center and the experience is good. I have to say I am not a fan of shore dive especially with rocky surface shore but the USAT wreck was worth all the effort.

The cafe speed might be a little slow, and I had to wait over than an hour for my lunch to be served once, but I guess when you are at such a laid back place, you ought to be a little chill.

My boyfriend and I did our SSI Open Water Course here at the Dive Centre with Marie.
Marie was a great instructor! She was knowledgeable, patient and encouraging which helped to build our confidence for the dives. We had a pleasant learning experience.

Everything was also very well taken care of - diving equipment, resort stay, food, transportation! The trip was worry-free.

It was a very warm and cozy, staying at Matahari, as everyone there was friendly. Great service.

Would recommend Matahari Tulamben!

The main attraction of Tulamben is undoubtedly that it offers superb diving conditions. Hence, there are numerous dive centers. We choose, for the third time already, the dive center at Matahari Tulamben Resort, because it also offers very convenient accommodation and other services. The dive center is very comfortably located on the beach, next to the restaurant and right in front of one of the best dive locations (“Coral Garden”) in the area.
Most important are the very friendly and helpful staff. We were a group of six divers and were appointed two “private” diveguides (Ben and Wayan). Together we agreed on a very flexible timetable that accounted for our interests and experiences. The guides quickly found the right way to attend experienced divers underwater and to offer them enough freedom to explore the reefs at their own pace. Moreover, they offered extensive help when harsh conditions made it difficult to enter the shore dive sites. Thanks a lot, guys!!
In short: we highly recommend the Matahari Resort dive centre.

Had amazing SSI Advanced Adventurer course here! My instructor, Marie, was very helpful with the paperwork and both very professional and great at explaining throughout the whole course. Another instructor, Didi (went diving with him on night dive), was also great and the best thing is they're both very patience with their students. I also remember having a great communication with Mrs. Suci when I asked about the course and she was very helpful with my last minute request. Also, they take good care of their equipments, my dive gears worked perfectly.

The only thing they need to improve in my opinion, is the food. It's clean and well prepared but it

Overall, I have great experience diving with them and recommend Matahari Tulamben if you wanted to dive in Tulamben.

We travelled to Matahari Tulamben after seeing the fantastic nudibranch photos posted on Instagram by Yury Ivanov. It did not disappoint. The macro diving was superb with a huge diversity of sea creatures. There was little in the way of big stuff (though we did see sharks and barracuda at Liberty Wreck), but then we were there for the macro, as were most other divers, I believe. Our Matahari dive guides (Delon, Gun and Eda) were all excellent and brilliant spotters.

Took advance course package and love it. It was convenient for a solo diver as there was pick up and drop off service included. The room is clean, the staffs are responsive to our requests, and the food is tasty with big portion for me. My instructors, Marie and Didi, are supeerrr. They are really kind, patient, and encouraging. Love the wreck and drop off!! All the dive crew are also helpful and always joking around. I also got a great deal from Mrs Suci (owner) to add specialty course and extend my room. Definitely will come back to explore more dive sites ❤

Took the Open Water certificate course. However I was unable to complete the required training and skills. My instructor Marie was extremely patient and understanding with my struggles and allowed me the grace and space to proceed at my comfort level. A very skilled instructor and knowledgeable diver, I would not hesitate to send someone to her for help. A hats off to the dive staff. They were friendly and always willing to help get things done. A great group all around.

This is both a local resort and a dive center, the main attraction being the wreck of the Liberty of course. This has to be one of the best wrecks in Asia ! You'll need to watch when you are going as June to September can be crowded / cooler / windier and January to March can be wet. Best to go in May or October if you can.

The wreck is fantastic, first for its size and its shape. It was broken up by an eruption in 1963 so it's wide open, but it was big enough that it retained its shape. It's a haven for marine life and an underwater monument; as good as it gets. Visibility often is excellent as it's on the North coast, sheltered from trade winds. And there is this funny feeling of diving on a black sand bottom, like a photo in a dark background. The best part is that it's right outside the resort, on the beach; shore dive; 10 minute walk and local people carry your gear to and from there (paid for by the resort if you dive with them).

There are also a shallow coral reef (ideal for night dives if you're fed up with the wreck) and a drop-off if you want to enjoy a bit of wide-angle scenery. You can go to nearby spots or even take a boat to the Gilli islands BUT the main purpose of the Matahari resort is to save you the traffic in Bali : to and from Kuta takes 3 hours...

So here you come, Matahari Tulamben, tucked between the road and the beach, meaning you won't here a car for three days if you don't want to. Accommodation is decent (hot water, air conditioning and daily cleaning) and reasonably cheap for that standard; be mad and get a nice room or even a bungalow! The restaurant is basic but they don't overcharge you (as there are other resorts just meters away); same for the Bintang.

The best thing though is the dive center although there is only one instructor so if you know you want to do some training, best book in advance. The guy is not fluent in English but is perfectly clear, works hard (will accommodate your schedule) and is a decent diver; not as "by the book" as Americans, esp. PADI, but to me that's a relief. And because it's Indonesia and it's cheaper than back home and you don't have to pay for boat trips, you can do specialties for a really good price. The (light) theory courses will also keep you busy between dives: deep diving (so that your insurance covers you even if you shoot past 20 meters), night diving (also very useful in poor viz), wreck of course. And Nitrox, if only because Nitrox is free there.
