We have nothing but sweet memories with Matahari Tulamben. First time I dive was in 2012. Then I brought my pregnant wife. Second time was 2015, then with my two years daughter. I was able to convince my wife to take open water course. And the instructor. Didik was attentive, patient and helpful to guide my wife to finish her open water certification. The place is nice, serene, and the beach diving is simply amazing. The wreck is out of this world experience. We are now living in Malaysia for the past two years, but this place will be definitely the first destination when the lockdown is over.

Answer these questions: Are you a diver? Need a dive holiday in Bali? Or, do you want to become a diver or want to try it? Sick of temperate water diving and feel the need to dive in water ranging from 27*C - 30*C? Like kitting up at your resort and being right at a great dive site or within walking distance of several? Do you love taking underwater photos of really small creatures? Then if you've ticked any of these boxes Matahari Tulamben Dive Center is a great place to visit. Ok, I'm a diver of 40 years, instructor and amateur underwater photographer. I've dived all over South East Asia as well as other places, however this is my #1 port of call before heading off to other locations. For chilling out, diving, meeting great people from all over the world and having an excellent time mixing with all the brilliant staff, especially the dive masters, this place is just a haven. The DM's/ guides are always happy, want you to have the best experience, are excellent divers, can spot a 5mm nudibranch from metres away or know exactly where that pair of harlequin shrimp are. They are just classic guys and a pleasure to dive with!! If you are thinking of taking up diving then Marie and Di Di, the SSI Instructors will have you diving like a pro in no time at all. Pricing on guided dives I've found is very good value for money with gear included. The equipment is in reasonably good condition so no worries if your space poor with baggage. If anything I would suggest the more personal stuff like computer, mask maybe fins, camera obviously but other than that you're good to go. Tulamben is not only world renowned for having a wreck well within 'open water cert' depths but also for it's diversity in macro sea life. It is up there with Dauin- Philippines and Lembeh Straight- North Sulawesi for macro. Ok if your not into underwater photography but like to dive a stay of around 3-5 days wil be enough and you'd be looking for other places. I'm a bit bias towards Matahari but if something is good I like to tell people about it. Hope you enjoy the place as much as I do!

Took the Open Water certificate course. However I was unable to complete the required training and skills. My instructor Marie was extremely patient and understanding with my struggles and allowed me the grace and space to proceed at my comfort level. A very skilled instructor and knowledgeable diver, I would not hesitate to send someone to her for help. A hats off to the dive staff. They were friendly and always willing to help get things done. A great group all around.

My boyfriend and I did our SSI Open Water Course here at the Dive Centre with Marie. Marie was a great instructor! She was knowledgeable, patient and encouraging which helped to build our confidence for the dives. We had a pleasant learning experience. Everything was also very well taken care of - diving equipment, resort stay, food, transportation! The trip was worry-free. It was a very warm and cozy, staying at Matahari, as everyone there was friendly. Great service. Would recommend Matahari Tulamben!
