We had a family outing but Avontuur wine tasting we had a bad experience. When we arrived the lady asked my cousin if she told her if she told her if she told her if she told her the pairing was out of stock? So we went to another place and come back for the brandy and than the lady in charged still had a bad attitude.
This was really not a good experience.

Went there yesterday with a group of four people. No Covid protocols. Didn't have to sign in. No one asked to sanitize the hands.
We ordered both wine tasting available. It went like this " This is a Cabernet ,.. enjoy"
?????? It took me a few years but I finally found the worst place for a wine tasting in the Western Cape.
The prices are a bit on the high side and taste wise,... you can't argue about the taste. It wasn't ours. But just to be clear. The low rating is NOT for the wine but a very miserable service.

Lovely winters day when we popped in to the Wine tasting section of Avontuur. I opted for the Wine and Nought pairing which included 5 wines and 5 nought as well as fudge. There were two pieces of nought and three pieces of fudge. Lovely view looking over the horses in the paddocks. Relaxing. We paid R120.

As regular visitors to wine estates and absolute red wine lovers, we visited this wine estate on our way to Stellenbosch from Somerset West one Saturday morning. The reception was friendly and the staff very chatty. The wine was good. We opted to buy some wine after tasting. Even though we bought their flagship and most expensive wines, we were still charged for wine tasting, something that will ensure that we will never return, as I feel that when someone is obviously there because they want to buy wine (and especially your most expensive ones), you should not expect them to pay for a tasting as well.

After a drive for a couple of hours vía Franschhoek and Stellenbosch we end up in this warm (in the winter) winer .. aside from the wine, the lunch was the best I have tasted of South Africa .. starting with the appetizers (sweet potato soup, kidney and carpaccio) the infusion of flavors open the appetite. Then the main dish, super tasty lamp chops in a bed of vegetables in a delicious sauce that I was about to put my fingers on it to clean the plate .. last dessert this soft bread pudding I have not tasted before.. I will definitely be back .. this taste I have to tried again ..

My wife and I plus 2 friends visited the estate restaurant for lunch on a Sunday in April. We had the choice of sitting outside, but opted for our pre-booked inside table as it was cool and breezy.
Very attentive staff, great food and wine and we all enjoyed the experience. Looks to be a popular restaurant so table reservation is recommend, at least over the weekends.

We had lunch here and there was a delightful menu with many choices. We chose salads for a light lunch and it was perfect. The setting could not have been better with beautiful views and a delicious rose!

On such a rainy weather, the restaurant warmed us up with a central fireplace. The food was very delicious. Such a cosy restaurant 🥰

What a way to start a #WineRoutingWithLloyd Sunday morning. The drive out to Avontuur Estate along the Stellenbosch Wine Route is definitely a scenic one. And pulling in at the estate on a beautiful sunny morning really put a smile on my face.
So I've got a ridiculous sweet tooth to be honest with you guys. So I really like sweets & yummy treats. And when I heard what I would be experiencing at Avontuur Estate, I was excited, because, 1 - this is a different experience, and 2 - I love sweet things! Avontuur Estate offers a fudge pairing. A fudge pairing with a twist that is.
Welcomed with a very generous box of fresh slices of assorted nougat & fudge from Basilei Handcrafted Confectionery. (I had to stop myself from devouring all the pieces before even tasting any wine.)
Prepare your tastebuds for an interesting mix of flavours & textures as you get to explore the premium range of wines available.
MCC Brut x Honey & Roasted Almond Nougat:
- A refreshing glass of bubbly with slight floral hints & very easy drinking. (Definitely one for any occasion.) With lingering hints of the roasted almond on your palate, it compliments the softness of the MCC aftertaste & feel.
Luna de Miel Chardonnay Reserve x Fig & Walnut Nougat:
- Not your conventional bold Chardonnay. But rather with hints of citrus & fleshy white peaches which contrast beautifully with the fig. The smooth & creamy finish compliments with touches of some spice with the walnut.
Pinot Noir Chardonnay x Traditional Fudge:
- A nose full of ripe red berries & hints of rosewater giving it that bit of floral effect. The sweetness of the traditional fudge working well alongside those floral notes.
Dominion Royale Shiraz Reserve x Dark Chocolate Fudge:
- A gorgeous, yet slightly smoky Shiraz, giving you some hints of White Pepper on the first sniff & then a bit of a Red Roses sweetness following through on the 2nd. A dark chocolate fudge with a big & bold wine is always a winner, with the dark chocolate giving an interesting contrast to the slight sweetness.
Above Royalty Natural Sweet Viognier x Salted Caramel Fudge:
- A favourite. The Viognier giving you those ripe Litchi's & Pineapple. Complimented by the saltiness of the fudge, it brings out hints of vanilla in your glass.
Avontuur also offers a self-guided walk about on the estate, with interesting landmarks to stop at & admire the view & surroundings. Whilst reading up on each of these points in a pamphlet you'll receive that's filled with lots of information about the estate, where the family came from & why there are horses galloping around. This was really cool, as you could take your own time strolling around & taking in the fresh morning air.
Definitely worth the stop if you are heading through to #VisitStellenbosch. You should also have a glass of that Cabernet Franc. It's one of my favourites!
