The reserve was an oasis of calm just outside Cape Town. We watced birds saw tortoises and wandered freely in the park. They could do with updating their website to ensure all the details are correct and older versions are taken down.

The reserve is well maintained and shows a good example of the finebos. There are plenty of walkways of all kinds and grades. If you want (and can) you may hike up to the top of the mountain. But also for shorter walk there is wide variety, some of them even shady. Nice places to rest are as well installed... More

Where are all the dustbins? If you are going to remove the bins then may i suggest that you provide a 'garbage bag' at the entrance that people can place in a skip when they leave. Other than that and the lack of wildlife roaming around, it's still a great picnic spot under the oak trees.

Great day out took our own picnic. Amazing views. Loved the experience of the countryside and the proteas. We took our family and sat under the trees, it was very peaceful and idyllic.

Over the festive season we spent several hours in the reserve, walking, resting and playing. The children especially had a great time. My only complaint is the relatively expensive entrance fee which is per person plus for the car. Nonetheless, we would still recommend the reserve as a site where families can 'chill out'.

Very close to the centre of Somerset West is this piece of unspoilt mountain fynbos: great for a leisurely picnic on the lawns or an energetic hike up the mountain. The little cafe is not for fine dining, but perfectly adequate for a light meal. All in all, a great asset.

You can chose how long you want to hike and how high you want to climb. There is a very good map in the shop which shows all the routes. If you don't want to hike, you can sit on the lovely lawns and have a picnic which many families do at the weekend. It is a great place for... More

This was the second new years day that we as a family visited the nature reserve, once again it was fantastic, quiet and lots of space, well maintained and cared for. BTW the reserve is great for early morning walks with the kids, the 4km is easily doable by kids older than 3 years. I have pushed a pram around... More
