About
IMAGINE ….. a place where the creative energy and the vibrancy of Cape Town come alive in an authentic fish factory in a working harbour …. where people of all ages and cultures gather alongside one another to celebrate our unique South African spirit …. where the hustle and bustle of a boisterous market fills the air …… where local traders exchange banter with customers …. “that’s a bargain, fo sho!” … an eclectic stylish wonderland of exquisite art, craft, jewellery and fashion …. complemented by the delicious aromas of food to tempt all the senses…freshly baked breads, spicy seafood and citrus fruits … you pass a robotic mime drawing gasps from giggling kids … the sound of a township guitarist and a groovy sax …… punctuated by singing seagulls …. where the famous beauty of Chapman’s Peak looms overhead ………. and the vibe is just sommer lekker!

Fun visit on a Saturday. The stalls had everything from shirts, art ware, jewelry, etc... and there’s loads of food choices as you go deeper into the market (Chinese dumplings, kabobs, ice cream). Sadly, we just had lunch- but everything looked amazing.

It’s a total tourist trap so negotiate, compare & check prices out at the harbor stalls too, they are all selling the same wares, it’s just a bit more (double) at the market.

Great vibe and live music!

The market is still recovering from the Covid close-down but many of the stalls are back up and running and the merchandise is excellent quality, typically South African fare made by craftsmen or homegrown chefs and gardeners. A lovely outing offering really good food, drinks and shopping for home or gifting. Lovely vibe for the weekend

We enjoyed the time we spent at the market. There is quite a variety of food stalls. Coffee, wine, waffles and craft beer. The stalls have interesting art and goodies from local artist. You can leisurely stroll through the market, as it is inside there is no wind and sun to move you along faster. Different tipes of cuisine is served. There is also a bakery with fresh artisan breads and other baked goodies.
The live music keeps you entertained as you sit down at the tables and benches while you enjoy your freshly prepared food.
We had a lovely time

Well worth a visit if you are in the area. They offer a good selection of curios, food and drinks, and have a very nice vibe especially later in the day. They do however only operate over weekends, when they have live entertainment as well.

Eclectic and cosmopolitan mix, in a very artsy surround. The music just added to the intense feel of the vibe, loud and happy crowd, perfect place to have fun and lose yourself and imposed inhibitions. Made for easy conversations with a very broad crowd. Great food and drink, you can mingle with the artsy stand owners , browse their stalls and do some shopping.

What a find!
I talked my husband into taking me to the market not being sure what we would find.
What a great surprise. Lots of little stalls and bays selling some quite unusual and unique things. Clothes, paintings, tee shirts, hand made souvenirs and so much more. Further inside is a great range of eating options and alcohol outlets. Plenty of seating. Live music and a great atmosphere.

A must if you are in Hout Bay Area

The entrance to the Bay harbour market is a bit obscure and os located on the corner of the street diagonally across from the well-known “fish on the rocks”

There is a wide variety of food stalls including halaal and vegetarian options. you can also find waffles, pancakes, ice creams etc. the wide array of food and drinks coupled with live band provides a festive atmosphere and therefore highly recommended.

The mini lamb burgers at the halaal stall was delicious. Three mini burgers and chips was R160, and great value for money.

There are lots of “craft type” stalls with handmade goods as well as great gift options for tourists to take home.

Nice place to stroll and have a bite, even nice gin brewery on site. Attention we bought table place mats and when home we washed them at 30° as explained buy the seller. All the colours were gone after that wash.... so good for the bin. Had the same with a shirt bought at fishermans but were in time to return it to the shop. proces are higher than on other places but quality is same as on street.....Do not forget to negotiate prices... or better do not buy stuff in cotton or linnen there!

Went to the Market on the first night of our holiday in the Western Cape. We’ve been to the Market 3 or 4 times over the years and it never disappoints.
The vibe, the hussel and bussel is just great and the variety of food and drink is amazing. We tried several different food stalls and they were all fab. Pizza, wraps, seafood, meat dishes and lots of local snacks. All really tasty. Lots of beers and really nice wines.
The live band were really good too, playing a variety of music with people up dancing and larking about. Great night out and our teenage kids had a ball.
Lots of stuff to buy too, some touristy stuff but lots of interesting bits and pieces and arty stuff.
If your in Hout Bay don’t miss this.

If like me your idea of local shopping to get to know a new place is more market than mall, this seaside venue hits a sweet spot. The undercover market houses around 100 stalls offering local arts and crafts, young designers doing young designer things, snappy clothing and a wide array of food and drink stalls. The very fine pan seared tuna and mango salsa for all of $SAR8 was a high quality bargain. Yum. Couple that with a fine double espresso and front seat view of the fairly excellent guitar singer -it all addedup to a pretty good time. Outside the market the vista of the mountains hugging the swirling waters of the bay is a pretty good reason to wander over, find a flat rock, and sit and contemplate. When it’s time to go, Uber’s are cheap and plentiful.
