- P&J's TravelsFarnham, United Kingdom191 contributionsLovely lunch at the BistroVisited Grand Provence under our own steam rather than on the Wine Tram. Enjoyed a lovely light lunch & glass of excellent Sauvignon Blanc under the trees at the Bistro. Beautiful setting in the Franschhoek valley surrounded by the stunning mountain vistas. Worth a visit...Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 14, 2023
- mrgrumpyNorthumberland, United Kingdom85 contributionsDon’t expect guidanceNever been to a such a disorganised winery, no one there to guide you to either tastings or meals and what options you may have. We enquired in tasting room if they served a cheese platter to which we were informed no( even though it’s on their tasting menu) we left and came across bistro, all tables had a reserve sign on but on enquiry a waiter got us a table. Food was good but experience marred by lack of directions. We also seen and heard many other visitors saying the sameVisited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 15, 2024
- Kalkan WhiteKalkan, Türkiye11,629 contributionsWine tasting! This is a winery on the actually wine tram route (not buses). Smart looking place with an art gallery & some interesting sculptures in the gardens. The wine tasting experience was pretty average, little enthusiasm from the staff, made it a lack lustre experience.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 16, 2024

Lots of nice art items inside the shop and out. Oyster 🦪 bar if you like them.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 10, 2024
- CriticDubai, United Arab Emirates139 contributionsLovely lunch experience in the gardenThis is a beautiful place to stop for lunch. The food quality was excellent and we all enjoyed our salads (my wife's beetroot salad was fantastic) and the setting lovely with spaciously laid out tables and a kids play area for the little ones. I had a Caesar Salad which was good. The setting is beautiful and worth the stopVisited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 20, 2024
- rdubbs08Edmond, Oklahoma7,844 contributionsChic & ElegantGrande Provence exceeded our expectations - the entire property is chic & elegant. We spent the day doing the pink line and this was our 4th winery. There is art throughout to look at, a playground for the kids, oyster bar, plenty of wine and live music on the day we were there. It was just perfect!Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten April 15, 2024

We did the grey wine tram tour and decided to book lunch here, but to be honest was the worst stop along the way. We booked for lunch and they weren’t serving 70% of the menu, because of load shedding but failed to tell us in advance when we booked a month in advance vs. Other stops that were serving lunch. As we were there we decided on the cheese / meat selection and it was firstly distinctively poor with little flavour and secondly overpriced (£20, which is expensive for SA) vs. Other lunch stops in franschoek. Wine was okay but it was very touristy stop full of pretty drunken folk. My advice would be avoid and spend more time at Moreson (the best on grey line), rickety bridge, le lude and haute cabriere!

We visited Grande Provence as private visitors, rather than on the Wine Tram or a tour. The setting is absolutely beautiful with lovely gardens surrounding the outside Wine Tasting area. Unfortunately the wine tasting at R85 per person was an expensive disappointment. Some of the wines we tried only cost R69 to purchase, and the quality was very poor which is perhaps reflected in the price. This was the most expensive entry level wine tasting we visited, for the poorest quality wines. Better to go elsewhere in Franschhoek and pay less to taste better quality, and higher priced wines. Worth visiting however to see the cheetahs, and the setting, but don't stop to taste!

Not sure the wine tasting experience here is anything particularly special, but the art on display all around the grounds and inside is top class and much of it thought provoking. The collection is all from South African artists, including emerging talent as well as better established artists. I wasn’t excited by the wine, but it’s definitely worth coming here for the art.

We called here for wine tasting and were very impressed with the grounds, layout and fabulous views.
It was quite late in the day and after several other wine tastings by the time we arrived here but nonetheless we thought the setting was amazing.
We sampled several wines and they were all very acceptable.
We also had some food here - fish and chips and burgers - which were also very tasty.
Although we didn't see them, I understand that there are fantastic wedding facilities here too.
Definitely worth a visit.

Sadly disappointed with our experience here. We hopped off the wine tram with high expectations. Paid almost double what the rest of the places charge for a tasting... Also ordered a cheese platter @R280 which was also extremely disappointing.

We attended the Harvest Festival on the 22nd Feb 2020. What an amazing day, very well organised and great value. We had a tractor ride into the vineyards where we were met by a local brass band. After picking the grapes, we did a cellar tour, followed by wine tasting and a harvest feast accompanied with a bottle of Grande Provence wine. We ended the day with grape stomping. A really incredible day.

Grande Provence Wine Estate has over a 325-year history. Nestled in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in South Africa’s Western Cape, there are lush vines spread across 47 acres. Rolling vistas frame the valley floor and heighten the drama of the rugged mountains beyond. This is heartland South African Wine Country at its very finest. I enjoyed their Angels Tears Tasting which was, AT Sauvignon Blanc, AT Muscat, AT Rosé, AT Merlot/Cab Red Blend, and a Nougat Pairing.

Visited on the wine tram...we did the wine tasting and had a charcuterie platter. This was expensive and there was a large party going on which meant we struggled to hear our wine expert
I found the wines disappointing and we didnt purchase any.
Amazing art work in the gardens but overall not a great wine tasting experience.

Grand Provence is an iconic wine farm located in the Franschhoek valley. We visited as part of the Franschhoek Wine Tram (yellow route) experience, and I loved that we got to take a tractor ride from the train platform through the vineyards to the cellar door (seating area is covered for those windy/rainy days). The Vineyard has the main tasting area (inside) with some outside seating options under the big trees as well. Close to the tasting area there is also a restaurant, as well as an art gallery. As it was a beautiful day and we were a very large group we sat outside and got to experience their tasty wines, including the farms natural beauty, as well as art pieces spread around the gardens. It is also good to note that they have a big jungle-gym play area for the kids.

This estate has another dimension, that is its sculpture garden and gallery. other than wine and dine and there are options there as to how you want to experience this. This makes it a very special place.
We chose to have oysters and bubbly and a seasonal salad and all three were exceptional as we sat in the garden surrounded by the extraordinary unique works of Anton Smit. The oysters were firm bellied fresh and flavoursome

Vou fazer a visita nessa vinicola pelo Wine Tram. Sabem me dizer se é necessário reserva para a degustação de vinhos?
Written January 24, 2020
Hello, Do you need/take reservations for the Tapas in the tasting room? We are planning to take the wine tram on September 14. Thank you.
Written August 18, 2015
I would think reservations are needed in tasting room on a weekday. Meals in evening and weekends are typically booked. You will love this place.
