We drove up to the reserve on a Saturday morning and did one of the walks up one of the 'mountains' (it was around an hour up and an 45 mins down). Its a really nice way to spend a morning with spectacular views as well as some real peace and quiet. We only bumped into a handful of people... More

Firstly, unlike us, make sure that you have picked up a permit to visit at the tourist information office in Franschhoek or at the Huguenot Museum Shop as the office at the reserve isn't always manned. The walk we undertook was simply stunning - chose a cloudless day and enjoy the fruits of your labour!

This really is a lovely place to go. We hiked the Uitkyk path - a there-and-back (7km total) trail. Probably one of the most rewarding shorter walks I've ever done... Beautiful fynbos plants, incredible views - and we saw a klipspringer and baboons too (safe here - they do not approach people). Note that you can buy your passes from... More

Important to have R40 each in cash for entry permit. A fenced safe environment. We hiked for 14km on some well marked trails, worth having a map ( you can copy on your phone the one at the gate) as a fire has destroyed some markers. Stunning views and easy to strenuous hikes, not a walk you need hiking boots... More

We only had a few hours so did one of the shorter routes to breakfast point via a beautiful view spot. Will be back for more! Make sure you take R40 cash for entry to the reserve

Great walks for families with young children, although the path can be steep and slippery in some places. We did the 3km long round trip walk in two hours. No shade but worth the walk to the viewpoint overlooking the pass and valley in a safe environment. Toilet facilities only at the gate with safe parking. Tickets bought at the... More

Make this a part of your trip to Franschhoek. There is a manned car park and information hut at the main entrance (get a permit in the TI Office in Franschhoek) - the trails are challenging so ensure you wear decent walking shoes but the views are beautiful.

Easy to hard walks throughout the reserve. Well worth a trip. Passes available from Tourist Info in Franschoek.

We did the short hike to Breakfast Rock and Uityk which is about 3km one way. The permit cost R40 per adult. The paths are well maintained and easy to follow. The rangers were good in advising us which route to take based on available time. Our walk started out on a warm winter's morning and then suddenly the mists... More

This is a great place to revisit as the amount of walks is endless. One of the amazing things being that you will hardly come across other human beings and can enjoy pure nature
