Fun and educational Be sure to check out the lecture times. You will not look at the wetlands, water and beach the same after hearing the staff speak. Usually there is a audience participation piece which both kids and adults enjoy. The touch tank is great. The Institute is a great place to learn what we can touch, what we... More

Just spent a long weekend in Avalon/Stone Harbor, NJ -- at the height of the summer seashore crush. Lines everywhere, noise everywhere, too many people everywhere. The one delightful exception: The Wetlands Institute, at 1075 Stone Harbor Blvd. Situated in a green expanse of wetlands just over a bridge from Stone Harbor, this is the place to catch your breath... The institute with its small exhibits and passionate interns is worth spending couple of hours at - a break from the beach maybe.

Took my two teenage sons and my sister on the 6pm salt marsh cruise. We had been on a similar cruise a couple of years ago in Cape May, also guided by Wetlands Institute staff, and found it interesting and fun. Our guides for this trip were knowledgeable and entertaining. They were able to answer a lot of questions, plus... More

We love the Wet Lands Institute. We have gone two summers in a row. Their creature feature is cute and they have some displays that the kids can touch the animals. It is also very educational.

This is a great place to visit with children. It is a wonderful environmental gem that does a great job at trying to teach the community about issues in the area, especially the plight of the diamond back terrapins.

A must stop when visiting Stone Harbor. Experienced scientists, researchers and volunteers who can provide some of the best information about wetlands, shore birds, ecology, turtles and all that the NJ Shore has to offer. Great for kids and adults. Very informative, professional and friendly. A must do if in the area.

Awesome place to visit and bring the kids, very knowledgeable staff! They work a lot with saving the turtles and other wildlife. I haven't been there yet this year but I believe they do kayak excursions.
