A Lot of Fun at a Reasonable Price
Oct 2020
We were there on Halloween with our 8 year old. There was plenty to do, and lots to see. Frequent shows held our son's attention and the kids got to participate. There was a train ride and a stagecoach ride, both of which had to confront attempted robberies. What a fun way to spend a few hours, and located reasonably close to the major metro area.

Lots of learning at Wild West City
Oct 2020
I have been interested in visiting and had the opportunity to one of their last weekends in October (though not for their Halloween fest). I don't consider myself a "Wild West" fan but like old fashioned tourist sites from yesteryear. It did not disappoint! It definitely holds old school charm. The main street is designed so it really looks like you are in the old west. Shows are ongoing throughout the day. What really impressed me was inside all of the buildings, they were filled with artifacts and historical information. The post office had information about the pony express, bank held tons of currency from around the world, newspaper shop has a print press. Some of the buildings housed old housewares and farm equipment. The staff and costumed actors walk around and have fun interacting with the guests. They allow you to enter in and out of the main gates throughout the day. You can bring in your own food however they have a grill and pizza shop. As a vegetarian, I thought my veggie burger was good and appreciated them being on the menu! We did not do the extra activities such as the stagecoach, gold paning, mini golf, pony rides but really enjoyed the historical bits in the park. That was something I was not expecting of Wild West City.

A treasure in need of a dust off.
Oct 2020
The kids (9 and 10) loved it but I had just a couple of disappointments. First, playing music all the time is great but how about keeping it with Gene Autrey and other cowboy music. I thought I heard a bit of cowboy poetry in there which I loved. Modern country-western music did not fit the theme. I longed to hear "Home Home on the Range" :)

The stage performerances are awful and really are just an opportunity to do the stagecoach or train ride which are great. Liked the street performances. The kids and adults enjoyed the historical exhibits - a shop full of homage to the Indians, the one-room schoolhouse, the print press, and blacksmith shop were great demonstrations. Kudos to the docents. With a little effort, this place could attract groups looking for an educational experience.

My parting shot is that I wish they would bump the admission price one or two dollars and use it to upgrade the care and feeding of the horses. A couple looked a little underfed and all needed a good brushing. But then, what do I know? BTW, the ponies are very small and just for the little kids.

Oh - they could make a fortune on food with their captive audience - as it is, not so much.

Haunted Wild West Fest Fun
Oct 2020
Our visit to the Haunted Wild West Fest exceeded expectations with our 10 year old. We had never been to Wild West City and it was a really neat to see the town (various shops/businesses) spooked up at night with a working blacksmith and tarot card reader! The best was the train ride where people were jumping out and scaring you (even more fun than a haunted hay ride). We would definitely go again! The only reason I didn't give it Excellent is that I thought they could have done a better job with sanitizer - ensuring people used when they entered the establishment and having sanitizer for the train ride.

OK but not worth it
Oct 2020
I really wanted to like this place but just really didn't have a lot to do. Some of the shows were good but the participation stuff was just way too drawn out and lost kids interest.

Be sure to buy tix online in advance to get a discount. All rides (ponies, train, stagecoach, golf) are extra.

Fun for the Family
Sep 2020
What a terrific piece of Americana! So glad that this type of family fun location still exists right here in NJ. My kids loved it. Glad to be outside, close to horses and other animals and take a pony ride! For adults, it may be a little stale (so go to the bar--they have good liquor) and watch your children's faces light up. A wonderful time. Free parking reasonable admission costs and pay as you go for the train ride or pony ride. Loved it.

Relaxing family-owned traditional entertainment
Sep 2020
It's nice to know a pleasant place like this still exists. Good, sizable crowd on this Labor Day. Staff very welcoming and informative. They have a respectful opening flag ceremony with the horses. Live performances every few minutes! Great to see visiting kids so enthusiastic to be there, especially when they were able to participate in the performances. Let it be known these shows include gun play where actors "die" in the road. So think on the sensitivity of your own young-ins witnessing such depictions. Popular are the stagecoach ride and the mini train ride. History buffs (like me) will enjoy vintage old west exhibits (jail cell, bank, post office, blacksmith, etc). There's a barnyard zoo and a mini golf course. Good gift shop. The food service is similar to a boardwalk menu -- pizza, burgers and fries. Otherwise I recommend bringing your own food for there are plenty of picnic tables. There are also plenty of benches so folks can rest while watching old west stuff go by.

Stress Free Day
Aug 2020
Very low-key, fun time! We took our two kids on a weekday and it was a very enjoyable experience! Temperature checks at the door, masks required in the museums and a lot to see once you're inside the park.
Live shows every 15 minutes on the main street, small barn animal display, panning for gold and little museums.
We did all the extras: pony ride, train ride and stage coach. Actors were friendly and helpful, the park was clean and well-cared for.
Our kids dressed up and that added to the excitement of the day, definitely would go back.
*Make sure you bring quarters for the rides. You can also bring food in as there are plenty of picnic tables.

A place to check out!

My husband and I brought our 3 boys to Wild West City this past weekend and we had so much fun!! You really get a good sense of how it was back then! The actors did a great job at re-enacting, they were funny and did a great job at including the children!! We highly recommend going!!
