Always a Pleasure!
Jan 2020
This AMC Theatre in the Rockaway Mall is always a pleasure. It is kept very clean and always shows the most current movies. My movie buddy and I recently saw 'Knives Out' and it was thoroughly enjoyable. We usually go on a Tuesday to take advantage of the discount. With membership in their STUBS club our tickets only cost $6.40 each. You can make reservations online for free to watch up to three movies per week. To join all you have to do is pay the $15 annual membership fee.

Comfortable
Jan 2020
The theaters are a good size, not too big, not too small. The seats are comfortable and you can pick your seat location when you purchase your ticket. The food is outrageously expensive. The staff is friendly and helpful.

It’s a Wonderful Day in the Neighborhood

We came to see movie. I was disappointed that they don’t have reclining seats. The theater had popcorn everywhere! It’s obvious that no one checked out the theater after the last show as the floor is disgusting. Last time I go to this theater.

Picture at Top of page Misleading - Theaters GROSSLY OVERPRICED!
Nov 2019
AMC Cinemas pride themselves on being the first ever multiplex cinema operators and while that may be true, this theater complex, first opened at Thanksgiving 2006 is now OBSCENELY OVERPRICED. The individual ticket charges are OBSCENE, their STUBS reward program price has jumped 100% since it was first introduced and this theater complex is very often overcrowded and understaffed.

To make matters worse, the parent company that owns AMC Cinemas is a RED CHINESE ARMY owned company, so again, more and more US dollars are siphoned off to benefit an authoritarian regime and its army.

I used to attend here quite frequently until the average ticket price, even for seniors and military passed the $10-11 mark. Concession prices make a date here a $50 proposition if not more.

I now see all my first run movies at the older, less current Cinepolis SUCCASUNNA theater where as a senior, I can see a movie for under $10 and NOT have to deal with the crowds at the AMC Rockaway 16 and the mall itself.

It will be a very long time before I patronize AMC Cinemas anywhere again.

I have been going to this theatre for some time. The frequency is only based on convenience, but if I had a closer option, sometimes Sparta, I would choose to use it. For the double feature at the Force Awakens, the movie was supposed to be in HD. It played in 3 D so the staff scrambled to get glasses. When we put on our glasses and the movie began again it switched back to 2D HD rendering the glasses useless. The movie continued in 2D then shut down completely again during the showing and we had to wait 15 minutes for it to come back up. We were given free passes but as I went to pick up the passes the supervisor complained that she thought getting free passes was unnecessary. Really?! Fast forward to Avengers End Game at the 4 am showing. Right in a tense, and suspenseful part, the movie shut down. It took 12 minutes to come up again, no apology, no compensation. Now last night I went to see Tolkien, with a live simulcast at the end of the movie. The lines were not too long but the wait was, despite having 3 people at the counter. One person is reserved for their AMC rewards customers leaving us to having 2 cashiers. Even with their own cashier, the rewards customer line would continue to cut in front of our line. Is this the way it works? So as long as there are people in the Rewards line they can just keep cutting the non Rewards line? Ridiculous. It took close to 29 minutes just to get a small popcorn. When the question and answer part of the movie kicked in there was audio with no video for a good ten minutes. All that being said, a pretty sad track record here. For the prices being charged for movies these days I hope the management here begins to improve, because technology will begin to render these places obsolete and it is not worth the hassle.

Not enough staff to handle the crowds
Mar 2019 • Family
We had arrived 30 minutes before showtime but were stressing out that we would miss the beginning of the movie because there were so many people in line in front of us and one, yes, I said one person selling tickets! That person also had to answer questions that people doing the self-help online ticket purchase were asking. The food line was another disaster and my husband missed the movie beginning because he waited 30 mins. to buy popcorn and water! Management needs to improve this situation, I know we won't be back anytime soon. It is too expensive to be treated like this. And I agree with other reviewers the place is dirty inside and out!

Movies - The Great Escape!
Jan 2019 • Family
Lights, Camera, Action! We burgerpilots.com-e here to escape reality. Huge selection of genres. The food options rival craft services - Not just popcorn and hot dogs anymore. Clean restrooms. Comfy seats with cup holders.
The Coke slushy gets awesome reviews on it’s repeat performances (free refills) The screens and sound put you in the movies. Experience the action bigger than life. You keep watching - they’ll keep filming (and so will we). This review’s a wrap.

Comfortable but expensive
Jan 2019 • Couples
This theater has the most comfortable seats! The prices are high. We try to go on a Tuesday when they have $5 movies. We belong to their club, but the free version. They keep advertising a premier club for $19 a month and you can see three movies a week or something like that, but who has time for that? With the free membership you can still accumulate points and occasionally get some money off popcorn or refreshments or a ticket. Otherwise, the refreshments are really expensive, like $5 for a Coke.
