Self guided tour of home decorated by garden clubs. Exceptional! Plan to return in spring or summer for guided tour that includes the gardens.

Fascinating history of the house & property via a guided tour
Oct 2018 • Friends
An excellent tour guide gave interesting details about the history of the house and the contents of the six rooms we visited. Also provided was fascinating information about the occupants of the house prior to it becoming the NJ Governor's official residence. Our tour lasted about an hour. Please do visit the website, as a visit requires advance registration.

Beautiful Mansion
Apr 2018 • Couples
How nice that individual parties can make tour reservations online! This was the easiest governor's mansion tour to arrange on our mid-Atlantic states trip. With a reservation, the guard at the entrance gate will admit you to park in a small lot.

The mansion is currently undergoing some remodeling, so we missed the staircase, but we did see most of the areas on the normal tour.

Our tour guide showed us the dining room, library, music room, and study/office. Along the way, she told us of the builder of the house and the subsequent owners who all had fascinating lives. The house was purchased by the state of New Jersey in the early 80's; not all governors live in the house, but it is used for entertaining and other functions. Lovely house worth a visit if you are in Princeton on tour day.

Governor residence.

Governor residence. Most of the time you can just drive by and see from the road. Once a year it is open to the public.

Lovely Christmas display

You don't have to be in Drumthwacket long to appreciate the beauty and history of this mansion. Various garden clubs had the place decorated tastefully and beautifully for the holiday season.

Worth Seeing if You Are in the Area
Jun 2016 • Couples
I was excited to tour the Governor's Mansion as I never had the chance before and I've always been curious about it. I have to preface my review by saying that I had just toured the mansions in Newport, RI the week before. Drumthwacket does not compare to the mansions in Newport but, that's OK.

Our docent was a little off of their game the day that we went. I think it was because a tour bus scheduled ahead of our tour ran late and all the docents had to adjust their schedules. During the tour, visitors in the group would ask questions and he kept saying, I'll get to that but, he never did. To this day, I don't know which governor(s) lived in the mansion because he never answered that question.

We were taken through a few rooms on the first floor only. It was interesting but, not spectacular.

If you are in the area, I recommend touring the mansion. Otherwise, I wouldn't say it's worth traveling to.

Worth the trip!
Jun 2016 • Couples
We were very pleased by the quality of our tour! Our docent was interesting and very informative, as well as gracious and welcoming. The mansion inside has fine antique furnishings and artwork with strong local heritage. Due to poor weather we could tour the garden, which looked wonderful from inside the solarium. We coupled this with a trip to the Princeton Battlefield, which together gave us a good perspective on some important NJ history. Overall a very enjoyable day!

An architectural beauty with limited access to the inside, but check out the library. There is a guide written by and especially for school children.

The Govener's Mansion at Christmas time
Dec 2015 • Friends
Put this on next year's holiday to do list. Free admission. Free parking. Very festive. Reservations are required via the Drumthwacket web site and i.d. Is required upon entering the gates. The first floor rooms are decorated by local Garden Clubs. The docents are friendly and informative. Self guided tour will take 1 hr or less. Combine this holiday event with a brunch beforehand or lunch afterwards in beautiful downtown Princeton. No Chris Christie sightings. He lives elsewhere but does, by report, spend the holidays there.
