The staff was pleasant and accomodating. The area and the canal were not very nice. Very dirty. Lots of trash. Very hot (Avoid going during prime sun hours, go early morning or evening). Will not be returning here

A little place to get a kayaking experience. Spend a fun afternoon activity with friends and family. It was good for beginners and kids/teens. Reasonably priced one, two, or three-seaters are available to rent for an hour or more. The trail runs parallel to the canal in case you just want to have a walk.

Wow, if we had read the August 2020 reviews before we went today, we might not have gone and that would have been our loss. The customer service is lacking a bit but with better management/supervising, their deficits could be easily corrected. The did not ask about experience and they did not check the condition of the kayaks before putting them in the water. But when we said we wanted kayaks with functional braces and seat, they did get us better ones. The day/weather was gorgeous and so was the canal and lake. It was crowded on the canal but people were being COVID-19 courteous. Suggestion for seasoned kayakers...use the portage and head over to Carnegie Lake...it was beautiful with blue herons, snowy egrets and lots of turtles.

The situation is getting out of control on weekends. The noise, trash left behind and total disregard for the community that lives on the canal, as well as the wild life both of the canal and in the wildlife refuge is unbearable (I saw today somebody leaving the kayak and going inside the refuge to use it as restroom!) . The amount of people using kayaks is absurd on the weekends, not only the parking area is full, now the cars are on the side of the canal, crowded and impossible to park. People don’t use these kayaks to respectfully enjoy nature, now due the very few options for entertaining most people come to get drunk, be noisy, and alter the ecosystem. If you want to relax, be safely outdoors with family and enjoy nature AVOID this experience at all cost.

We had a reservation for 11am they didn’t open until 12 on a hot summer day at least 20 ppl were waiting to get on a kayak everyone was grouped but nervous because of covid. They had what looked like 2 15 year olds just standing there staring back at us saying why they couldn’t open but no one could hear them and they wouldn’t speak up. When the owner finally showed up at 12 he just walked in and didn’t really apologize. Then he just started handing off kayaks and didn’t take people that had reservations first. Super unprofessional business. Really dirty kayaks and our kayak had a metal pin on it that had rust and a naked women on it. We were lucky a kid wasn’t on that kayak were he could see the picture or worse step on that metal pin. You would think they would clean their equipment since covid is still an active problem.
