Ocean City beach is a generally clean, family oriented beach. The central part of the beach is wide and life guards are usually available from 10 am to 5:30 pm. on weekdays and up to 5:00 pm on weekends. Tags are $10.00 for the week, and $5:00 per day per person. So, if you are planning on being on the beach for three days or more in the week, it's economical to buy the $10 tag for the week. They are available from booths on the boardwalk, or tag inspectors stationed at the path entrances to the beach.
The boardwalk is fairly long, approximately 2.5 miles. There are a variety of restaurants along the boardwalk that offer all kinds of food. There are also souvenir stores offering beach and cliche accessories, clothing and decor items. Business didn't seem to be as brisk as expected, but good enough to bring smiles on the faces of proprietors and their employees, happy to be at work and eager to sell their products.

On the boardwalk there are also amusements parks where the family can have fun. There is 'Playland's Castaway Cove', consisting of 4 roller coasters and a variety of rides that are geared towards kids, and others that can be enjoyed as a family. Another amusement Park is 'Gillian's Wonderland Pier' where the spectacular Ferris Wheel can be seen from miles around including from certain areas in Atlantic City. There are also a few rides in this Park. Another amusement park is the 'Ocean City Waterpark' that provides a lazy river and a few other rides that would surely amuse the kids.

If you don't want to walk the boardwalk, there is the option of renting a buggy on 12th street, or other locations along the boardwalk. The buggies are of different sizes. Some can accommodate 2 peddlers or 4 peddlers or 6 peddlers, and each has space for kids. It is really a fun way to move along the boardwalk, which is wide enough to allow buggies and pedestrians to safely move around.

There are a number of parking garages close to the boardwalk. I was parked on Ocean Avenue and 11th Street, for $5:00 for a 12 hour period. There is another Parking Lot on 12th and Ocean for a reasonable charge. This was during the week, so weekend may be higher.

Ocean City is a wonderful location to spend part of the summer. You can practice safety measures by using the sanitizing stations located near the railing every few yards along the boardwalk. If you want to enjoy your stay be smart and wear your mask, and practice social distancing, and you will make wonderful memories of a lifetime.

I had never been to Ocean City, NJ before. We arrived about 10 am and we were happy to find parking lots right next to the beach where for $20 we could park all day.
We then walked down the boardwalk to what looked like a good spot on the beach. We paid for a day pass and got down to relaxing. We rented an umbrella and 2 beach chairs for $20 which the guy set up for us. The day was very relaxing. The beach got busy but never to the point of being crowded. The water was chilly and the life guards were very attentive.
There were plenty of bathrooms available on the boardwalk which were clean.

The boardwalk was very clean and enjoyable. Almost everyone followed the rules for wearing masks when supposed to, so it was safe too.

I didn’t realize the beach was a “dry” beach. That undoubtedly contributed to the family friendly atmosphere of the area.

Overall, I highly recommend this beach town. Safe, clean, organized, enjoyable and relaxing.

Ocean City Beach is a clean beach with a wide, fun boardwalk. Nearly everything (arcades, amusement, restaurants, ice cream, booths, shopping) is open and it's a really charming area. The amusements are expensive ($5 per person for a short ride) but fine for all ages. Arcades are cheap compared to similar arcades at Point Pleasant Beach and other Jersey Shore beaches.

One problem is that no one is enforcing the COVID-19 mask rules within the amusement sections. Masks are mandatory in those sections, but masks are often pulled down, off to the side, sometimes off and staff members let that happen. Go at your own risk.

On the boardwalk, where masks are not mandatory, I would say it's about 75% to 25%, non-mask vs. mask, which we as a family were comfortable with because we were not only outside, but properly spaced. Within the amusement sections, people were a little more tightly fit and of course, waiting in line for rides.

I’ve avoided the Jersey shore for 20 years, but was desperate when my Myrtle Beach plans fell through. I can’t wait to come back! It’s crowded and still in re-opening pandemic phase, but it’s great! Right now, masks are required indoors and pools are still closed. I love that the boardwalk has everything you need and perfect for strolling, biking, etc. There’s public bathrooms and they are pretty clean considering the crowd. I recommend staying at a hotel or rental that has parking so you don’t have to worry about public parking. We are a block away from beach and access is very easy. Everyone walks, so it’s not difficult with car traffic. I’ve barely needed to drive anywhere- grocery store, Wawa, restaurants are all within walking distance. They clean up the beach daily so when we get out there in the am, it’s perfect. Don’t forget to get beach tags!

Small beach and even smaller swimming area. Water is loaded with shells, so i would recommend water shoes, especially for children. The lifeguards keep everyone confined to a small swimming area, which defeats the purpose of social distancing.
Swifts chair and umbrella rental were polite and reasonable prices.

Ok for a quick trip to the shore but Wildwood beaches are much better.

Because of work going on to repair the shoreline, the open area of the beach near the boardwalk was uncomfortably packed by 10AM on a Tuesday. The area to swim was even smaller (maybe 50 feet wide) and the lifeguards strictly enforced this even though there seemed to be more room available. The water was also a weird shade of black. Our 2nd day in OC we drove down the shore a bit away from the boardwalk and parked (for free) around 35th street and used the beach there. It was a thousand times better. Smaller crowds, plenty of room for playing and swimming and the water looked normal. The boardwalk in OC is nice but I recommend visiting it separately and using the beach elsewhere.

I just love this beach, it's definitely not Ocean City MD, where all the troublemakers and classless people go. Two things keep it this way: it's a dry town and you are charged a small daily fee to go onto the beach. I've only been here a few times now and I loved it every time. I've never encountered any rude or annoying people and it's a very safe, fun, family-oriented environment. The sand is not too chunky for the most part, except near the water line during low-tide, and the waves never seem to be too much to handle. It's my favorite beach in this part of the East Coast, when I can't make it down to the Carolinas.

Beaches were magnificent even during off-season. We went during September 2020 and they were still well maintained and cleaned on a daily basis. We walked stitches from 5th all the way to the end of the island at 58th street. Wonderful and relaxing. Lots of sand and plenty of room during these Covid times. Ocean City N.J. still has some of the best beaches in N. J.

We come down and spend the day and use the bath house before going on the boardwalk. Love the fact that there are lifeguards hate the fact that it costs money to sit on a beach. It's the beach do I really need to review that pleasure!

Yes, you do have to buy a beach tag and this is unusual for many of us outside of the area. However, for your money, you get very clean beaches (cleansed via bulldozers every AM!), garbage cans, very vigilant lifeguards, specific, marked swimming and surfing areas, and very easy access to restrooms. You are also moments away from the boardwalk with access to 2 amusement parks, a small water park, a movie theater, a surf school, many mini golf and escape room options, and a ton of food choices. There is also a fishing pier.
