This time we had with us family and friends from Germany and Luxembourg. What a great way to show off the subtle beauty of local area. The 2-hour cruise starts in the heart of Millville and follows the Maurice River 1 hour down the stream and back. The price recently went up to $22 per person but it is a unique attraction indeed. There is cold bottle water available, handicap accessible bathroom, educational materials, historical Millville photos, bird watchers photo albums and bird guides, even binoculars for your use while on board but nothing can compete with live commentary by Captain Dave. The cruise is preceeded by an interesting introductory lecture on water-bound history of Shingle Landing and what later became the city of Millville. It is basically guaranteed you will see ospreys and eagles. You will pass by the Maurice River Bluffs, learn about locally famous Burcham Farm and the last remaining and active dyked farm in New Jersey. To make reservations one has to leave a message with Captain Dave but if you lucky you can just show up in Ware street marina/dock witch is an extension of Buck street.

This is an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. The captain and crew are friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the area. There are always eagles and other shorebirds to view.

Maurice River birding cruise is a great way to spend an afternoon. We saw Bald Eagle nesting pairs with their young. Ospreys fishing and Blue Martins were also flying by on our trip. Too many bird encounters to mention. Just go on this trip or their cruise in Cape May. Very enjoyable experience.

My husband and I first took this cruise a few years ago. Both of us grew up near the river. Since then we have gone every summer when we come to Jersey from Florida. We have taken our kids and grandchildren. The captain tells many interesting things about the history of the area. We have spotted eagles, ospreys, etc. It s a restful and enjoyable cruise. We've taken snacks and sandwiches with us on the evening cruises.

Always enjoy the cruise down the Maurice River on Captain Dave's comfortable river boat. Usually am in the company of Millville's artist laureate, Pat Witt. Between Her, Captain Dave and his first mate, Millville's history and the story of life on the river is well told. The cruise lasts about two hours, and the Captain and his mate have sharp eyes for the wildlife. They pointed out eight eagles, either on their nests or perched on tree branches as well as many osprey ,both relaxing and fishing. The sunset was glorious and the company was grand.
