- Justin WHasbrouck Heights, New Jersey3,447 contributionsWhat a light show!I was able to get one of the tickets to the recent Christmas light show at the Demarest Farms and was very impressed with the job they did decorating the orchard for the holidays. The Demarest farmstead was beautifully decorated for Christmas with white lights adorning the home and colorful lights outside. I then drove through the outskirts of the orchard admiring the colorful lights and the twinkling displays of snowmen, Santa's and Winter scenes. All the exterior trees had been decorated for the holidays. The whole tour took about 35 minutes and I was able to listen to classical music while touring the orchard. Back at the farm stand they sold smores to toast on the fire pit (at $6.50 was over-priced). They had music and cutouts at the farm stand for families to enjoy. It was a nice evening. I just wish they would sell their cider doughnuts individually again.Visited December 2020Written January 7, 2021
- TaleofGenjiWaldwick, New Jersey87 contributionsFruit picking at Demarest FarmWe took part in both peach and apple picking at Demarest Farm and highly recommend it. Unlike other farms that charge you per pound for what you picked, Demarest charges per person/per bag making this a very affordable activity. Adults were $5 each for the hay ride into the field and its $9 per bag. The bags are deceiving, they look small but they fit a lot. When we came home and weighed we had picked 38 pounds of apples (2 bags). This is great for someone who enjoys baking or canning. They also sell food out of the farm store so you can grab something to eat when you're finished and picnic outside at their tables set up around the property. Their apple cider donuts are great. Buy tickets/bags at the farm store and then cross the street to wait for the hay ride.Visited September 2013Traveled as a coupleWritten October 19, 2013

Absolutely love the farm and the different season festivities they have. Lights were great! S’mores are fun for the family! Christmas trees all around! Always a great time at demarest!Visited December 2019Traveled with friendsWritten December 26, 2019

TLDR: whatever idyllic, fall family excursion you have in mind, this is the opposite of that. If you are a young family looking for a weekend activity for your little one(s) to get away from the city, this highly commercialized version of apple picking is probably not what you're looking for.
This business should be investigated by the Better Business Bureau.
On our recent apple picking visit, for which we had to prepay, the first employee we asked for help in directing us to trees volunteered that 90% of the trees were completely picked through or dead and that we'd have to walk to one end of the farm (with our 18 month old) to have a chance of finding apples to pick. We prepaid $7/person and $15 for a bag to collect the apples that were apparently mostly, if not entirely, already picked through at this farm.
When we arrived at the farm entrance, we waited in line for 35 minutes to park because they had dramatically oversold tickets relative to their capacity. Not only was this inconvenient, but it meant that our time at the farm felt more like walking the aisles of a grocery store than it did anything else.
This is to say nothing of the general customer service and the approach with which most employees of the farm treated their customers.
One of the worst customer and consumer experiences I've had in the tri-state area in over a decade living in New York.

My family's visit was a disappointment. There were no animals, as there previously had been, and the small playground area was too crowded for comfort in an era of COVID. The produce (apples and plums) were good. The donuts were a disappointment and not worth the calories. We left quickly after a long trip to the farm.

We did both apple and pumpkin picking. For two adults, two 2 year olds, two bags for apples and two pumpkins we paid $56.
The hayride was fine minus the dusty road that a quick spray with a hose could take care of. Every single person on the ride to the patch and back was covering their faces and those of their children. Either hose the dirt road down or drive slower.
The pesticides used were visible on the apples and even on our hands. This was beyond disturbing.
The pumpkin patch was the only decent part of our morning at the farm. Employees were cranky and the crowds were just too much. Never again.

I took my grandchildren to Demarest Farms last week for apple picking. When we arrived, the place was packed and there was no parking available at a nearby lot. We were told to follow the signs to parking. We had no idea it would be about 2 miles away and then we would have to ride a school bus back to the farm. Once we got back to the farm, we had to walk through the parking lot to the other side of the farm to buy tickets. Then we were told to cross the road and stand in line again to get on the hay ride to go apple picking. This whole ordeal took close to an hour, and with young children in tow, it was not easy.
Once we finally arrived at the apple picking area, we had to walk a good 8-10 minutes just to get to the trees that still had apples on them and many of them were much too high for the children to pick. There were no ladders available. There were some tools for picking - but we had no idea where people got those.
Then of course, we had to do the whole trip in reverse to get back to the car. It was a sweltering hot day to begin with and this trip only made it more exhausting and disappointing for the children. Not a trip I would take again even if it is closer in proximity.

We went pumpkin picking on Sunday Oct 7, arriving at 1pm.
Several half to 1hr long lines: one to get from the parking on the shuttle, one to buy tickets, one to get on the hayride, one to come back on the hayride.
They have no consideration for people's time and don't bother to put a note on their website how long this will take.

It’s overcrowded. No apples. Have to go across the street to get to the “farm”. There’s no parking, so you have to take a school bus to go about 2.7 miles away for parking. There was nothing special or memorable about this place. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Do yourself a favor and just keep driving. Demarest Farms is SMALL & OVERCROWDED, and they are NOT CAPABLE of dealing with it. Parking staff is shockingly RUDE and INCONSIDERATE. They yelled at us and wouldn't even allow to drop off family and toddlers when the main lot was full. And just to rub salt in our wounds, 5min after they refused to help us and told us we could "TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT," they started allowing cars into the the main lot. Overall, most of the staff is annoyed with people and just seem to resent being there.
At Demarest, the over flow lot is about 3 miles away, so budget at a MINIMUM, AN EXTRA HALF HOUR to take the shuttle back to the farm store and ticket booth.
Honestly, I WISH we had gone to HEVEAN HILLS which is only an extra 40min away. A REAL pumpkin farm, large enough for a relaxing experience.
At Demarest Farms, the tractor ride to "pumpkin patch" is across the street. Their patch is a bunch of pumpkins in the dirt. HEAVEN HILLS has acres and acres of pumpkins on the vine with wagons and wheel barrows to navigate with your little ones.
Disgusting Port-a-Potty are free of charge at Demarest. HEAVEN HILLS has real toilets and changing tables for parents, also free of charge.
Demarest Farm's cider donughts and food are pretty much on par with anything you can get at any local farm or maybe your local grocery store.HEAVEN HILLS posts times they put out fresh their fresh baked cider DOUGHNUTS and their apple butter is devine!
The only nice thing I can say about Demarest Farms is that the playground is nice for kids and our daughter did love the animals and play houses, and the dirt. Demarest Farms has lots and lots of dirt. HEAVEN HILLS has acres of grassy fields, a much bigger petting zoo, Pig races, corn maze, hay maze for toddlers, hay towers, obstacle courses, and much much more!
We'll never return to this farm. There are plenty of better options in NJ. There is NOTHING SPECIAL about this farm. The proximity to NYC is nice, but it's not worth the rude service, crowds, & OVERALL BELOW PAR experience that you get.

was so excited to travel to my hometown for the day and visit many of my favorite places....When selecting my jug of apple cider, I placed it by the csshier( older woman~my age) and said "I'm just going to set this here while I grab a few more items"...Well, she gave me a dirty look...... A bout 2 minutes later I proceeded to the check out and asked her where is my Cider.....well she rang it up in the ladies order, who was just exiting the build....Mind you, that lady had no Idea she just prchased my Cider.....The saleslady made a snippy comment, and I had to remind her that I TOLD her I was setting the jug on the counter for 2 minutes.....She was just plain rude.....what was such a nice day of Bergen County memories was ruined by the attitude of this cashier....Never again Demarest farms....I'll drive to Lancaster for my Cider from now on!

Was Told by the staff that they have Granny Smith Apples for picking in the orchard both in the farm house and at a stand in the orchard. Walked around for a long time and they did not even have the trees for these apples. Of the other varieties most of the trees were barren and people were picking from a bin near the stand at the orchard.
