Try to go here to do some strawberry picking w family.
Very rude and arrogant person in the front entrance of the farm.
I was trying to get money from my cousin that’s already inside because you have to pay $5/person to pick.
This guy yelled at me and said go to the side and I was accused of trying to sneak in.
Later did I learn he is one of the owners.
Being one of the owners he doesn’t have people skills.
Will not recommend to family and friends!
Bad customer service.
Please take your business somewhere else.

Battleview Orchards in Freehokd is great for fruit picking and for fruit buying in their store.

The orchards are nicely laid out. Easy to access. Priced reasonably. They have set up minimal contact payment for this time of Covid. As with all fruit picking, get there early for the best ones.

The store itself is very good. They don’t mark up the price much more than the picking price, which with some places do. The fruit pies and turnovers are wonderful.

A visit to the Orchards and the store is nicely coupled with a walk in the Battlefield State Park right next-door. And to make a really full day of it take 30 minute drive to the elegant beach at Ocean Grove just east on 33.

The people who own, run, manage or work at this place seem like they are trained to be unfriendly. There is no reason to treat customers like they are the enemy. You can't ask a simple question without getting a snide remark like you're bothering them. Maybe they'll be happy when they've chased all their customers away. They've chased us away. Permanently.

We went for apple picking on a beautiful Saturday. The place was fairly crowded and there were too many people not wearing masks. Many of these people were there is groups and there was no way to avoid them when walking down the orchard lanes. What should have been a fun experience turned very stressful and we left with far fewer apples than I had hoped for.

I’d give them a ZERO if I could. Absolutely appalled. To go from being a place I loved to a place that I will probably not patronize again. I went to take my daughter pumpkin picking and we were told that we couldn’t enter with my wife’s purse…meanwhile there were other people walking around the pumpkin patch with diaper bags much larger than my wife’s purse. Furthermore the staff were beyond unprofessional. Instead of being told “we’re sorry” we were told “well those are the rules” in a condescending tone. So we asked to speak to a supervisor…boy what a mistake, we were met with even more condescension from the supervisor who told us “Well if you don’t like it, you can go somewhere else.” Clearly professionalism is not a priority and the staff is out of touch with the fact that repeat customers are what keeps businesses afloat.

Best apple cider doughnuts in NJ, and I've visited quite a few orchards! I love that you can get your doughnuts from a walk-up window (especially now with social distancing measures in place).

The country store offers everything you need from pies to farm fresh groceries to local products like honey, jam, and pickles. Wide selection of candy too!

Pro tip: Order lots of doughnuts, because you can't eat just one! Walk-up window is cash only; store accepts Visa & MasterCard.

First time ever hand picking peaches. It is a much quicker stop doing this compared to when you go apple/pumpkin picking. Be careful as you step on all the squished peaches. Filled out the experience by going in the store, which had a wonderful assortment of specialties. Store was set up and maintained nicely. Would recommend.

This is a large business which attracted a ton of people on Sat. Oct. 7th. We were amazed that after spending time with the crowds picking apples....when we drove to their bakery and country store there were no bathrooms. No place to wash your hands. Once you get cider and a doughnut there are no picnic benches or any type of benches.
They are making such a profit...can they not provide these basic things?

Every year since my children were young I would take them apple picking. Now my children keep that tradition and take there children. We have always gone to Eastmont orchards but they were closed for the season. We did not want to brake tradition or disappoint the grands so we though we would give Battleview a try. First the parking was horrible. No one was out there directing it was a free for all. The apples per pound were very pricey(if you could even find any) and the lines to purchase them were very long. I am not cheap by no means but the merchandise in the store was way over priced. The cider that I buy at a local store tasted better then the cider from their.

grew up going here. We always traveled from Brooklyn. I have since moved to Long Island, but for sentimental purposes my family still comes here. Before coming, I checked the website. When I googled the website, it said you close at 5. The website said 6. We got there right at 4 and just wanted to visit the pumpkin patch, so figured we had plenty of time either way. We loaded my two year old and my elderly parents (my dad is a stroke survivor and in a wheelchair) out of the car and went to the entrance. Immediately, a blonde woman in a beanie, maybe in her mid-50s, told me, with attitude “you can’t come in we’re closed.” I told her that’s not what their website says. She told me “yes it is I’ll show you!” And proceeds to pull up Facebook. When I check hours for a business, I google them and whatever is linked as their official website is what I check. I am sure 99% of you do the same. Their website states right up top they are open 9-6. When I told the woman this, she said “I’m not checking these are the hours.” Clearly she knew the website had inaccurate information. After I pulled it up and shows her she said to scroll down to a different area of the website. It stated that the orchard hours varied. That’s fine and all, but when the website says the hours right up top, any logical, intelligent person would come to the conclusion for a place that calls themselves “Battleview ORCHARDS.” Apparently, the hours at the top are for the store only. There were many others trying to get into the orchard who believed the hours at the top were for the orchard as well - it wasn’t just me. My two year old son was crying because all he wanted was a pumpkin. I asked the blond lady if I could go in and just take a picture of my son with a pumpkin, as we traveled 4 hours. She called a cop over and told me “now you’re trespassing”. I was at the entrance. I did not enter the orchard, let me make that clear. Why would you threaten me like that in front of my two year old son? How nasty of a person are you to do something like that? And how am I trespassing by being in the entrance of a business and talking to a worker? I would never expect someone to be that evil. She should not be working a customer facing position if she cannot learn how to speak with people and handle situations where the establishment is clearly in the wrong, especially when there is a child involved. I asked the woman for a manager and she screamed at me stating she was. I told her she needs to fix the website if she is the manager, and she told me that she doesn’t handle the website and to call the store and speak to their manager, so I did. The manager there said the store is separate from the orchard. So no one wanted to take responsibility. I even asked her for suggestions of things to do in the area so I can try and salvage the day, she just said “I don’t know.” The blond lady told me to “get out”. Very classy in a family place, and super nice in front of a 2 year old who just sat in a car for 4 hours and is crying because he can see the pumpkins but can’t go near them. I also want to point at, there were still MANY people actually picking pumpkins and it was a few minutes after 4 (and again, their website says 6). If she was the manager, and kind, she could’ve let us in for 2 minutes so my son could see the pumpkins I feel like this place is pulling a bait and switch so you show up and then have to spend your money in the store after driving hours because that’s all you can do. If you read through other reviews, you’ll see others were confused about the hours as well. When that many people are confused, maybe Battleview is in the wrong. I was have been coming here almost my whole life. Never again. I know of many others and have a large social media following who I will definitely share this with. It’s a shame this place employs such mean spirited people. We ended up going to the store down the road, Wemlock Farms, and they were absolutely lovely and kind and had absolutely amazing apple cider donuts.
