Disappointing
Aug 2021 • Family
I attended the Springsteen: His Hometown exhibit and I was rather disappointed! There wasn’t a lot of real memorabilia and I felt it was more like a Freehold exhibit! There was more about his family than him. I understand it was “his hometown” but it seemed like they needed to add his name to it so people would come in to hear and see about Freehold! Not worth the money for it, thank goodness I’m part of NARM and it was on the list!

Great Springsteen Exhibit
Dec 2019 • Friends
Drove over from Philly (while vacationing there) to see the Springsteen exhibit! Definitely not disappointed! The layout was great, and the brief film was interesting based on his hometown’s point of view. The greeter at the door was friendly and we discussed travels in detail. She also informed us of More local history to include details surrounding the statue across the street!

Boring

If you want to waste your time....by all means go to the Museum. But do not expect to see worthwhile exhibitions. They are all controlled by the likes of one man and not inviting. Also the staff may not - with the exception of the greeter at the front door - be friendly and acknowledge you.

loved the hurricane Sandy exhibits/ hated the fact that no one was there.

We visited this spot on the Friday after Thanksgiving and although the website claimed they were open, the doors were locked. We called the next day and was told someone was there but only until one to let us in. We hurried over and found we needed to pay $5 each to visit. this was also not mentioned on the website. We were pleasantly surprised by the Sandy exhibit and found them fascinating. The portraits upstairs of Molly Pitcher were very good.

The museum never ceases to interest me. The guides are knowledgeable and you are never rushed. The artwork is interesting and somewhat eclectic in style. There are some beautiful paintings and fantastic molding in one exhibit room. I always enjoy the new exhibits such as the recent Storm Sandy exhibit. You can learn a lot about the history of Monmouth County and enjoy work from a few local artists. If you get overwhelmed by large museums, this is the one for you. If you can, donations really help. This is a hidden gem. I recommend that they advertise more to get more traffic.

Quite an Interesting Place

During lunch break from jury duty, I ventered a half a block to the historical museum. I was let into the building (you'll need to ring the door bell to get in) by Bob. Bob is a very knowledgeable person about the history of Monmouth county. He showed me around initially. Then I was on my own to take in all the history.

The two story building is full of revolutionary war circa history. There is a bust of George Washington and a statue of Molly Pitcher. There are also paintings and memorabilia from that time. Please have a look at the attached photos. There is a lot in this facility. There was one room closed for renovations.

I left a donation but that is entirely up to you.

If you're passing through Freehold (and even if you're not, make the trip) stop by this small historic museum. The place is very interesting, the personnel knowledgeable and the exhibits fascinating.
