Enjoying the Outdoors
Jul 2020 • Family
A trip to see the train for our first visit. We will go back to do some more exploring in the Fall and hopefully everything will be open. Not crowded at all plenty of room to social distance and not wear a mask. Some people were riding their bikes and a few people at the picnic tables. A local park that you can enjoy without the crowds.

Visited late October & enjoyed Haunted Trail.

Underestimated energy efficiency of Shelter, wound up using too much wood & had to open windows to get tolerable temperature.

Quick trip near the shore
Oct 2019
This was our first time here even though we live in NJ, although we may have visited once in the past many years ago. We came in just for their Halloween events and attended a one man show of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow in the church there, which at one time, was an active Episcopal Church. The presentation was excellent and we were actually greeted when we arrived and when we left by Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman on horseback. The quiet of the forest made the story that much more thrilling and was comparable to the story we actually saw in Sleepy Hollow, NY, in the Sleepy Hollow Church. The show has been performed there for many years in addition to other Halloween events and is a sellout every year. Cute buildings such as the Blacksmith Shop to visit during the day, the Pine Creek Railroad, a gift and bake shop and a woodworking shop, none of these were available at the 9 PM time we visited for the storytelling. Staff are dressed in period costumes. I would love to come back and hike and also take the lantern night tours during the Christmas season, and also next year for the Poe readings which was already sold out for this season. Many events throughout most of the year. No fees to pay to enter for off season.

Nice Quick Day Trip
Aug 2019 • Family
Cute historic village. Train ride is cute for kids. Two quick loops around the grounds. Complaints: Conductor spoke the entire time. About half the time was about the history. That was fine. The rest was about ticket sales and events coming up. Very annoying. Would be nice to enjoy the nature quietly without someone yapping loudly on the intercom.
Bake shop had almost zero products to sell and the teenager working it was fully bothered by my business. Gift shop was great and the historic buildings to tour were definitely well kept with helpful guides to show you what there was to see without being over bearing.
Not a bad day. And close to home so overall, all good.

It is a nice park and close to beaches.
Aug 2019
It is a cozy park, very basic but bath house was decent. We had a nice sight. We chose it because it was close to Belmar Beach. We also went to Allaire Village which we enjoyed. Next time we would like to hike the trails.

However, you can hear traffic from 195 which dampens your quiet in the woods experience. Unfortunately, our second night there, there was a wild and crazy party which kept us up most of the night and had to be taken care of by the State Police. That was very disappointing. The office kindly refunded us one night's stay though, which was nice of them to do so.

Go when they are open!
May 2019 • Couples
We decided to check out Allaire State Park on a Monday in early May. It was a gorgeous day, but nothing was open at the Park. We walked around and saw the outsides or the buildings and strolled down a few woodsy paths. We would definitely like to go back when things are open. Looks like a fun place to take little ones. We crossed paths with a little boy who had caught a toad in a net, but his mom had him return it to the stream. Glad we finally checked this out, as we have lived within 10 miles of the place for years!

Beautiful!

It’s beautiful! History comes alive in Allaire State Park! The demonstrations of the different jobs from colonial times are really interesting! During Halloween, they do a fun haunted hay ride and different family friendly activities!

Allaire State Park hiking and The Historic Village at Allaire .
Jan 2019 • Couples
There is a nice and easy network of trails in Allaire State Park including interesting Nature Trail and we enjoyed hiking there. Parking was easy and plentiful. We picked up the trailmaps and information in the park office.
The Historic Village at Allaire was also very interesting and easy to visit. In January the buildings are not open but visitors are many and there is plenty to enjoy in this former early 19th century industrial town of Howell Works.
The place seems to be super-popular with pokeman game players.
