The trails are not well marked if you're trying to use a map. The path walkways are clean and the bridges are new.

Multiple trails which can be as long as an hour or as short as five minutes. Well kept natural trails through mostly wooded areas with several crossings over the Tenakill Brook and along side it. The brook is stocked annually with trout by the State of NJ. Fishing with State license is permitted. The area is teaming with undisturbed wildlife which changes with the season. In the spring the two meadows are filled with wild flowers.Birds flock to two bird feeders which are replenished with seed by volunteers. The majority of the trails are in marshy woodlands so volunteers have placed wide planks down where an area may be prone to temporary flooding. Many trail bikers utilize the trails which are generally flat. There are benches along the trails where people just rest and take in the natural beauty. There are two areas that have been set aside to form ponds in the winter which are used by area residents for ice skating. The central entrance to the Nature Center is at Wakelee Field where there is parking and a map of the trails that can be used. This is a public nature center and all would be welcomed.

We just love the nature center. It provides a get away into nature. Plenty of birds and deer to see, and sometimes wild turkeys, ducks, and a gray crane. Beautiful trails for small hikes or jog through the woods. We are lucky to have this attraction so close to home.

Small neighborhood nature center with several marked trails. Watch for mud, fallen trees and ticks. Deer may be seen. Borders local playground that is geared to young children.

The Demarest trails are a great place for a quiet stroll. There is a map at the entrance, off Wakelee Dr past the ball fields. There is also a map online on the nature center's website. Also, you could park on the street behind the high school and enter the paths there.
The Demarest trails also connect with the Closter trails and are well marked and pretty well maintained. There are a few different types of terrains that make it interesting for return visits. I don't get bored with the same walk over and over. I've seen plenty of deer, egrets, ducks and woodchucks. It's fun to try and identify the tracks I find

Several towns in this area of New Jersey have nature centers, and this one is really good for adults and kids.
We walked the Nine Bridges Trail in the northeast section of the center, which has the greatest variety of plants and animals. We were on the lookout for several of the usual residents, including Baltimore Oriole, Northern Mockingbird, Wood Thrush and Cedar Waxwing. Look for Belted Kingfisher, Snowy Egret, Great Blue Heron or even a Wood Duck along the brook.
Snapping turtles also enjoy the brook, and. Box turtles have also been seen here, and if you are lucky enough to spot one, please observe it from at least ten feet away.
We saw the Baltimore Oriole and a snapping turtle, but found peace and quiet which was much more important.

Is the pool heated? We are planning a trip to Key West in Feb. so a heated pool will be essential. Thanks!
