Amazing trails!
Mar 2020 • Couples
We were there for 4 hours and we barely scratched the surface of the trail system at Back River County Park. The trails were well marked and in good shape. We will be back with snacks next time to try the other trails!

Went in the winter still snow and ice, will be back in the spring a path meandering by a stream 3 different hikes.
Plenty of parking and you get to pass the old grist mill.

Wooded somewhat flat trail along Black River (aka Lamington)
Sep 2017 • Solo
You can start at the Cooper Grist Mill and go down stream where the river widens to become Kay pond, and then there is a small waterfall followed by a narrower section later down stream where there are rapids and drops as the water courses it's way past big rocks and down the sides of boulders. White water paddlers have been know to paddle this narrow gorge section of the river at high water levels. It's impressive, but you need to hike off the path to see it up close. See americanwhitewater.org for kayaking pictures on the river.

Hiking with friends
Jan 2017 • Friends
This place is awesome for a quick hiking. I did 6 miles of trails and the place was a meditation heaven. I was here ending January, in an unusual 30/40 degree day and it was beautiful. The trails are clearly define and not unsafe debris on the trails. The trails were clearly marked and even if you didn't know where to go, there were plenty signs to guide first timers hikers. Because my visit was during winter time, the place didn't have many people, which made it great for meditation and to find inner peace while hiking and exploring nature. I love it and I am planning to go back soon.

Nice fall hike, but so many snakes!
Oct 2015
This is a nice place for a walk just outside of Chester. The trails were well-maintained and the terrain varied, though it was generally pretty flat. Park at Cooper Mill and you can start from two paths behind the mill. This way you can walk along the river. Or, you can cross under the street to the other side and take the trail that way. I started on the side across the street but turned around after I crossed a 3rd snake on the trail (just garter snakes or ribbon snakes, but any snake freaks me out). It would be fun to couple with a tour of the mill, I just didn't happen to go when the mill was open.

Relaxing
Oct 2015 • Friends
The Black River park and Cooper Mill is a great visit, the mill is open weekends and the park year round. It's great for a hole long the black River or just exploring near the mill and parking area. We go a couple times of year to enjoy the seasons from snow and ice to spring / summer walking to the fall colors. Defiantly take a walk under route 24 and up the river and then around the mill in the direction of Halkabarney state park (you can go all the way if you wish as well as to the Kay Center). Great place for a 30 minute visit or several hours out in the fresh air.

Seeing candy from your childhood and sharing it with your kids or grand-kid's sure makes the stories pour out about 'penny' candy, skate boarding and being able share great days...

Nice Place for a Hike
Aug 2014 • Couples
Black River County Park is a nice place for a decent hike. The hike is mostly flat and has fairly easy terrain. There are a couple of trails up to a few miles. Its very peaceful in there and overall a really nice hike.
